I believe the specific references were deleted by the moderators, and to tell you the truth, I'm not in the mood to wade back through 22 pages of this pointless thread to satisfy your curiosity.

allow the beef over this shi*t mate its better if you leave this specific forum as the users who are complaining have a problem with their iphone and whatsapp, you dont so its best if you just leave this forum alone

No need to satisfy my curiosity, I doubt you could achieve this anyways.

But I agree with you that this is getting off topic.

And I hope that you agree with me, that it is not okay for a company to terminate service for users who Payed for it. And I am not even talking about update service, just the service that was promised when buying the app.

I do agree. But Apple has nothing to do with it. This conversation should not be taking place here at all. It is entirely under the control of whatsapp.

I don't know who is responsible for this. According to the Blog-post from Whatsapp it is Apple. Would be interesting to read a statement from Apple about this.

P.S. I've heard that some companies sometimes cooperate to create win-win-situations

Apple did not force whatsapp to remove the old version of the app from the app store. Apple did not force whatsapp to modify the service so that it would no longer function with the old version of the app. Apple does not run the service provided by whatsapp.

Any fault lies squarely in whatsapp's corner.  Apple is simply a reseller of the app. It's not up to Walmart to explain why the TV you bought no longer works with your cable company. This is exactly the same.

(OK, not exactly the same... in this case, the manufacturer of the TV and the cable company are one in the same).

Well Apple is kind of famous for having very strict rules about whats put on their appstore (I have no informations about policies of multiple versions of the same app being in the store at the same time). And there is still Whatsapp's statement on their website. If this should really be a lie, then why doesn't Apple clarify that?

Ask Apple. No one here can speak to why they do or do not do anything.

I really had hoped that by now the management of WhatsApp would have come out and admit they made an error

and announce they were going to correct things and make it possible that the paid-for app would again work on iPhone 3G! But----not yet!

The prestige magazine Forbes estimates that WhatsApp has sold between 200 to 300 millions times its app via iTunes. I believe even WhatsApp is surprised to find out that given the worldwide protests so many of its app's are still running on older iPhones! And Apple itself may be too.....

Certainly in countries like India, but also in my country the Netherlands, people care about their iPhone and unlike other smartphones will never ever throw it away!!

Again: I hope very very soon in a legal way WhatsApp will function again on my wife's iPhone 3G

Apps are not capable of updating themselves in the background. I cannot be updated without human intervention. If you did not save a copy of the version that worked, it's your own fault.

Having read most part of this discussion it seems quite evident that despite the rules set by apple , whatsapp could have supported the older versions and just decided not to.

From whatsapp's blog it seems like they will never. The only closure on this topic can be given by whatsapp team as to if they will ever revert back their decision or it is permanently gone for us

    No use arguing here

there are only loosers in this whole tragedy: Apple loosing customers who buy cheap replacements like Samsung; WhatsApp leaving a very bad taste with customers who bought their product that is not functioning anymore and see their precious communication tool gone and 3) the customers like you and me who have a no more functioning product in their hand!!

Ok, one winner I can see: Samsung!

    When will WhatsApp wake up??

I have a partial solution, at least giving access to your Whatsapp messages.

Like everyone else, Whatsapp stopped working for me on my iPhone 2G (the original iPhone), it's surprising they supported this model for so long, so no hard feelings. Still, I did want to access messages I knew I had waiting.

My solution is running Whatsapp on your Mac instead, not the phone at all.

On your Mac download BlueStacks App Player from http://www.bluestacks.com/bstks_mac.html

This Mac app lets you run Android applications on your Mac.

Once downloaded and logged into a gmail account you are able to download the Android version of Whatsapp for free. Whatsapp will request your verify your account as normal, the sms will fail, just wait for the phone call option and that works.

Once in I was able to respond to missed messages. You won't have your contact list however, but that's no big deal to me. It's much like using a messenger app. Actually I always wanted a desktop version of Whatsapp which I've never found.

    Hope that helps some people.

(Sorry if someone has already posted this answer, quicker to post it than read through the 23 pages at the moment. I imagine you could do this with an iOS emulator too?).
