Hi everyone, I have had a macbook pro retina for about 5 months - noticed today a little horizontal black line (about 2mm) at the top of the screen about an inch or so to the right of the Help menu dropdown. It looked like a hair so I tried to brush it off with my sleeve to no avail. I used the microfibre cloth supplied, which also did'nt work. I have not dropped the laptop and I detest anyone touching the screen so don't how this has happened.

Any solutions? Or has anyone else had a similar issue?

Would apple simply replace the screen? Even for something so small but so in relative terms for the cost of the machine so big?

Appreciate any help/suggestions!

Thanks

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

    It could be a line of dead pixels.

    Have it checked by Apple and see what they have to say.

    By the way, which display do you have? Samsung or LG?

    Run this in your terminal. LSN = Samsung LP = LG

    ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

    Dead pixels sound about right but after only 5 months! Hard to fathom after spending so much.

    I agree with you on that one. I had my screen replaced because of IR and got a Samsung. Was over the moon.

    Now 3 months down the lane, one (or two) dead pixel start appearing.

    Apple representatives say they won't replace the display for just one dead pixel. You need 3-5. Also it depends on where on the screen they are.

    It's definitely worth trying and I would suggest you take full benefit of your warranty. That is your right - however Apple considers 3-5 dead pixels within norm. (so do many other display manufacturers)

    Please do let us know how it goes.

    Thanks

    Congratulations! Thanks for sharing the experience.

    Now for the sake of it, run the terminal command again. I am sure they would have replaced with a Samsung screen now. (LSN)

    LSN = Samsung

    LP = LG

    Enjoy the fantastic macbook!
