I am trying to decide to replace my WD media hub that I have. I have avoided buying the Roku since it will not allow me to stream my media from a server hooked up to my network. My media is stored seperate from my main computer. Will Apple TV allow me to use the server or do I need to have the media on an actual computer running an os. By the way I am a PC user so all of these questions refer to none Apple products. Thanks in advance!

appletv will only access a computer running itunes shared lib

the computer have to be turned on and running and itunes have to be running

even NAS's which state they work as shared libs don't work for this purpos I know because my nas support that

and is shown in itunes as shared lib but unknown to my appletv
