Very confused. I use a Windows XP laptop which has the hard drive almost completely spent, and itunes running and synching with iPhone 4S and iPad.  I'm buying a Macbook Pro and want to make it my new place for library and for synching.  I've searched and found how to to the pre-transfer work ('Keep iTunes folder organized' and 'Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library').  I've done both of those.  Then, I'll need to check the 'Consolidate files' and 'Reorganize files in the iTunes music folder'.... but I cannot check these boxes because there's not enough space on hard drive to create the copies.  Need to find another way.

My next thought (will this work???): Turn on 'Home Sharing' and let everything come to the Macbook thru Home Sharing. Deauth the Windows laptop, Authorize the Macbook, Then (on Mac) drag all files to their appropriate (non-shared) categories.  Turn off Home Sharing on PC, uninstall iTunes, give pc to daughter.  Can this work??

UPDATE: Apparently I had enough hard drive space to FIRST check the 'Reorganize files in iTunes Music folder' and THEN check 'Consolidate files'.  Then I exported the library, but the exported files is only 588 Kb... that can't be right. Pls help!

Exporting the library simply creates a text files of the info.

Exactly (to the folder level) where are all the media files located?

If they are in /Music/iTunes/ folder somewhere, simply copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder to /Music/ on the Mac.

That is all you need to do.

Thanks Chris! My Music/iTunes is 78Mb so that makes sense... but what about apps, movies, everything else?

    ??? That is nothing.

I see what you mean.... I just went into iTunes-> Music and i see it's 246 songs, 1.74Gb.

How can I figure out where they are located? And what is the 78Mb?   Note: I've already checkboxed 'Keep iTunes folder organized' and 'Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library'.  I've also checkboxed 'Consolidate files' and 'Reorganize files in the iTunes music folder' which took a minute or so but now when I look at it again, the 'Reorg....' is grayed out and the 'Consolidate...' is NOT checked.

Select a song, right click > Show in Finder.

Found... now says 6Gb... sound more feasible? Thanks for your assistance!
