Run this in your terminal. LSN = Samsung LP = LG
ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6
Don't know if it's a Samsung or LG - how do I check?
Dead pixels sound about right but after only 5 months! Hard to fathom after spending so much.
I agree with you on that one. I had my screen replaced because of IR and got a Samsung. Was over the moon.
Now 3 months down the lane, one (or two) dead pixel start appearing.
Apple representatives say they won't replace the display for just one dead pixel. You need 3-5. Also it depends on where on the screen they are.

I'm hoping they do replace it. I'm going to cause a fuss if they don't after only 5 months. Especially considering the niche of this laptop is the screen. I'm worried that you've said it depends on where on the screen it is. My blemish is about an inch and a half away from the 'Help' menu at the top in the white bar - which is why its visible. But considering it doesn't really get in the way unless watching full screen video - im worried they wont replace it.
I also did that command in my terminal and got the following:
Don't know what that means to be honest.

It's definitely worth trying and I would suggest you take full benefit of your warranty. That is your right - however Apple considers 3-5 dead pixels within norm. (so do many other display manufacturers)
Please do let us know how it goes.

Hi, so I just got back home with a new screen fitted. Can honestly say it's the best customer service ive ever received.
Basically I went to the genius bar, the guy turned it on with all these buttons pressed - and guess what, the line that was there all week had disappeared - didnt know whether to be happy or sad. He then got his thumb and rubbed against the screen with much force and said he could see where the blemish was, eventhough it wasnt visible to me anymore. It was about 2mm long. He asked if i wanted a replacement, so i agreed. within 90 mins i had a call back saying it was ready with a new screen fitted. i checked it all out and it is legit.
Over the moon.

Should also add that i called Apple the day before, explained the situation and got a case number. Don't know if it made a difference but I would suggest it - the genius also said that hes come across the problem before, so it might be common.
