Other's here have made unwise purchasing decisions?  Again Csound1, you are attempting to blurr the point of the original topic, which is that the new imacs come without an optical drive, an SD card reader located on the back, no FireWire ports, and no consumer upgradable RAM in the 21.5" version.

So what, deal with it or buy something else (assuming that you chose it for yourself)

    Grow up

Again you are attempting to change the subject.   I have not bought one, and have no intention of buying one in it's current state.   I have an iMac 2011 which I love.  It's not dysfunctional like the new iMac.

Then we agree, it's a bad idea for you to buy one, and now this is solved I will bid you farewell.

Perhaps it might be an idea to provide feedback to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/imac.html

If enough people request a internal DVD drive, or perhaps sales fall off, then perhaps they might listen...

As for me, well I have a 24" iMac purchased in December 2007 with 4GB of ram and it is plenty fast enough for video editing. It came with firewire 400 & 800 & USB ports, an inbuilt DVD drive (Matshita DVD-R), though sadly no SD card reader - the local tech shop sold me a card reader which plugged into the USB port which sorted out that issue. And I am thoroughly impressed with it as I have been with the aftersales support in the Apple stores.

And before anyone says I am running on Apple juice, just read the sharp comments I have made about iOS6.

An idea for Apple might be to add purchase options for the iMac - like ram upgrades, HD upgrades, internal DVD drive, SD card, USB ports, etc on their website... just a thought from a mere customer!!!

In the meantime I'm waiting for the option of an SD card reader on the 11" MacBook Air so I can transfer the photos on my camera onto the laptop.

It is very easy to see right on the iMac page the tech specs, what is included, and any information that you might need.  Acting like this  on the Apple Discussion board is not cool at all. Yes, farewell.

Please see the iMac product page and read the tech specs. Thank You.

You've posted the message so many times over the past month, when I hit reply it shows up on one page. So you don't need any help then. You might try finding a page or discussion group of a computer that does interest you. Anyone can see all of the tech specs on the iMac product page.

I have a Windows laptop that came with a separate CD/DVD drive just as Apple has the Super Drive for CD/DVD's that you might want to use. See the product page. You can use it with all your Macs that don't have an optical drive.

The new iMac seems to be slimmed down on everything - except its price of course.

    What about the Mac Pro?

You can purchase a CD/DVD 3.0 USB hub for under $20 that will give you up to 10 extra USB ports.

You will love it. It's a fantastic machine!

There are 5 other companies that removed the optical drive as well. You can search for the information. It's not a big deal.

Super Drive is available for CD/DVD needs.

This post has been repeatedly posted by you. If you don't want the new iMac, don't purchase one. It's that simple. Goodbye.
