    Yes, if you go through the many posts, which I doubt anyone can do at this point, you will see many people have been reporting through multiple channels. I've done what you suggest and encourage others to do it too. I've also talked to Apple at their stores and through their phone support. Many here even talked about organizing a day for a large group of us to all hit Apple stores at once. None of it has worked for several years now. Apple has ignored all of us.

    I have spoken to AppleCare on the phone. It was similar to the experience of others here. I had to patiently explain and describe the problem, wait while the helpful person was educated, then eventually I was put through to someone higher up. I made it clear that I wasn't looking for an immediate solution (which is generally what call centre staff are looking for - generally they struggle to recognise feedback or bug reports), and I also suggested they look at this particular discussion to see the length of time, and the major frustration factor.

     

    Apple sent me details for how to take a diagnostic snapshot of Mail, and I have just sent that back to them, along with a QuickTime video of me composing an email and moving text around. I discovered something interesting in the process (because I was using the Menu items for cut and paste instead of keyboard shortcuts): after I cut something from what I considered the 'body' of my email (not part of the signature), the Menu option for Undo would change to "Undo Change Signature", even though I wasn't changing the signature.

     

    Another interesting thing: the staff at AppleCare (in Australia at least) do not use Apple Mail. They have an internal message system.

    Hi Peter,

     

    Many months ago I went thru the same process, speaking with AppleCare, taking diagnostic images, and chasing, chasing, chasing for a fix. I hope that your report finally generates some action on the part of Apple. It's ridiculous that a core Apple program can't correctly handle cut + paste operations. It's equally sad that none of the journalists contacted by myself or others on this forum have seen fit to write about this problem.

    Yes, I agree. I also sent several different inquiries / notes that included detailing information about this insidious problem to MacWorld, and several online Mac "magazines". NONE of them even had the courtesy to even respond back.

    Apple unfortunately seems to be a sinking ship that refuses to recognise that there are other things they make than the failed iPhone cult icon.

    Am I ****** at Apple ....... yep!

    I'm the one that abandoned long-time use of PC's and am now a longer-time user of Mac's. I've pretty much given up on this issue and just using the crutch and bandages as needed when this problem keeps rearing its ugly face.

     

    I did get a sense of revenge in the last week when we purchased two (2) Samsung Galaxy Note II's ....... now there is a WONDERFUL phone! It is sad, sad, sad, that Apple has lost its quality edge and customer service excellence. I guess it is true that the "almighty dollar" can cause blindness.

     

    I hope, beyond any reasonable hope or faith, that Apple will address this. But, it appears they really don't care.

    I too have opened a bug ticket with apple. They left the case open as they are working to resolve this issue in a furture release.

     

    I've attempted the following fixes with out avail.

     

    The issue occurs with other users accounts. Nevertheless I tried rebuilding my own account:

    I reinstalled OSX but kept my user account.

     

    Reset the PRAM, NVRAM, and SMC (not sure how this would fix the probelm, but I will try anything at this point)

    The only work around is to paste without formatting (paste into plain text document then into email) or to choose Edit > Paste and match style.

    Easy fix:

    Copy your text from Word and paste it in Stickies.  Copy from Stickies and paste into Mail.

    While this may work, it is a "workaround".

    The bottom line is that this takes three times the effort that Apple's Mail Signatures feature is supposed to provide in one place, easily, with little effort.

    It plain and simple doesn't work!

    Thanks, all, for sticking with this...unfortunate that this discussion started 17 months ago and we're still on it...is it confirmed that upgrading to Mountain Lion does NOT fix this issue?

    No it has not. Mail still fails with formatting the signature. And it fails with font formatting in general when viewed by non-Apple email clients. Apple shows no interest in fixing the most basic shortcomings of it email client after much reporting on the issue to it directly and indirectly from its user community.

     

    Basically, Mail fails as a modern, adequate email tool for anyone interested in productivity and maintaining a professional image. If you want to be seen as a techical neophyte beholden to Apple, continue to use Mail.

    Dittos.

     

    Unfortunately, as many have commented both here, and in a growing number of forums and discussions, Apple, especially related to its mainstay computers that got them to where they are, is flailing in ANY kind of quality or care for its customers.

    "Apple", and all it used to mean, seems to also have been buried with its found Mr. Jobs.

    It used to be that even the smallest of details were even more important to Apple than "the big picture"; though, the "big picture" for Apple WAS in the details.

     

    Such an innocuous thing such as we have been experiencing and reporting diligently to Apple, respectfully to Apple, is immoral. We don't even get attention or a response from Apple, in any way, shape, or form. I hope we all can continue to monitor this forum, and others, and keep on this.

     

    Hopefully, someone, at Apple will start caring about its customers again, and "the details" that made Apple who they are.

    I've had this problem ever sisnce Lion. I've experienced the problem consistantly across Mail and Notes (really annoying) on my macbook pro and even with my iPad3. I thought doing a clean upgrade to mountian lion would do the trick, I even blew away my user profile, but like other users the issue still exists.  Threads like this only work for issues that can be fixed by users. Since this behavior is clearly an OS bug, the best thing we can do to resolve this is not rely on the forum. Apple is clearly the only people who can fix the code. So go to your Apple retail store and open a ticket with the Genius bar. The more tickets Apple has about this issue the more they will be able to see the trend, track the issue, and resolve the problem with a patch.

    Following opening tickets with Apple, the next best thing to do is help ourselves and gather as much information as possible. The more information we provide Apple the faster the root cause will be identified and resolved.  So, people, please include the specs of your mac. This behavior may be localized to a specific model, but we won't know unless it's documented.

    You know the good tech companies do monitor their forums, right? More importantly, the group monitoring  this particular thread was hyperactive; it's all here for your perusal. We scoured the Internet for solutions. We came up with numerouse and quite cumbersome workarounds. We contacted Apple's support lines. We went to their Genius (wow, that makes me laugh now) Bars. We have even attempted to organize a protest day to all hit the Apple Stores at once. And this is all to no avail.

     

    My support contracts never helpled. My faith in Apple evaporated.

     

    At this point, I see the forum as just a place to document Apple's ongoing apathy and disregard of its user community. I was a Fanboy. Those days are gone.

    WOW, just skimmed through most of this thread. I can't believe how awful Apple's support has been for not being on top of this. That said, I unfortunatley will have to use one of the workaround methods suggested throughout this thread

     

    MY QUESTION: 

    Is there anyway to tell if you're font is going to be screwy looking before you send? (like a check or safeguard procedure).  It's frustrating because the font looks normal in my email draft and then someone will show me what it actually looked like when i sent it, and it's all different font sizes and looks very embarrassing.

    Unfortunately, I haven't found any way to guarantee the look / feel of Apple Mail. I routinely highlight all text and apply a specific font + font size, only to find that when people reply to my messages the text is often vastly different from what I've seen before I hit send: different font sizes, some words (randomly) end up in blue font, extra carriage returns, etc.

     

    It is unbelievable that Apple refuses to fix this. Like so many others in this thread, I've been an  Apple advocate for many years, running numerous businesses in a 100% Apple environment. No more...

    Nothing to do with Apple.

    If the font used isn't available on the recipient computer, their mail app will default to their standard font. For Windows that would likely be Arial.
