Out of the blue(as far as I know at least, my 16 year old niece has been the one using it) my old MacBook decided that it needed the OS reinstalled.  The disk drive in that machine was defunct so I tried to reinstall from a backup on an external hard drive, no dice.  So I removed the optical drive and plugged in an external and tried to install from the DVD, and I get as far as the screen where I choose where to install the software and there is nothing to choose from.macscreen.jpg

I have a feeling this means something worse than better.

MacBook (13-inch Early 2008), Mac OS X (10.6.8)
