I installed mountain lion last night.  Now iCal is giving me the following message "moving calendars to server account..."   And is has been giving me the same message since 9pm - 12 hours ago.  iCal is unusable with this message.

Any ideas?ical

Did you ever get this problem resolved?  I'm going through the same thing.

I took the (risky) action of force quitting Calendar.app after waiting a while. When I re-started Calendar, it looked like all the events were back.

This might not be the best way to solve the problem, but it worked for me.

in the same boat, Force quitting doesn't help me. It just starts again.

The same thing happened to me where my iCal was stuck at "Moving calendars to server account..." today.  I did the following to resolve the problem:

    1.  Force quit iCal

    2.  Quit System Preferences

    3.  Restart computer

    4.  Go to System Preferences > Mail, Contacts & Calendars > iCloud

    5.  Calendars and Reminders will have a greyed out spinning icon and it will say something that suggests that it is syncing.  Also the check box will be greyed out.

    6.  In about 30 seconds or so, it will stop spinning and the check box will be restored again.

    7.  After this open iCal app and all calendars in iCould will be restored.

    Hope this helps!

I had this same problem after accidently turning on calendars in iCloud. Every time I would start up Calendar it would try to move the calendars to the server for about 7 hours before failing. Unchecking the calendars box in iCloud didn't help. I was able to get it to stop moving the calendars by removing everything in ~/Library/Calendars. This will delete all your calendars, but I had been syncing mine from Google calendar using BusySync. I was then able to restore those calendars from Google. Hopefully this will help someone in a similar situation.

Thanks so much dmertl.  I finally managed to stop calendars trying to move to the server.  I removed just the most recent calendar activity and it seemed to do the trick.  However, I've now ended up with duplicates, when I have only one calendar ticked i.e. I have the same calendar on 'My Mac' and in icloud, with only 1 ticked to show, but seeing duplicates anyway.  Also, it appears to have resent invitations from several months ago.

I'm officially over icloud.  It all started with a 403 error which came from the icloud server.  I can't put up with icloud anymore.   It'simpacting my brand with my clients, and my time, which icloud is supposed to minimise!!! Thanks again dmertl.

I turned off iCloud in settings.  It actually said it couldn't do it at this time, which was strange.  However it did remove all accounts except contacts.  I could then click on iCal again, & now it is refreshing all my meetings.

I have just been having this issue and, as long as you don't actually need to sync iCal and iCloud (for me this isn't necessary as i sync with my gmail), removing your internet connection ends the never ending "moving calendars to server account..." process. iCal then offers 'retry sync now' or 'retry later', choose 'retry later' then restart. Make sure to prevent reconnection upon restart then, still without internet connection, go into iCal preferences and untick the "enable this account" box on the iCloud email account pane.

This worked for me also. It said it couldn't do it at this time and left contacts as the only checked item. I then rechecked all the boxes, restarted iCal and everything was there and no moving to server message. Happy days! Thanks

Hi. I'm having this problem since yesterday.  It started out when PhotoStream suddenly stopped streaming photos. As part of my troubleshooting, I logged out of iCloud, then logged back in.  Since then (about 30 hours ago) I have constant "moving calendars to server account" with no indication that anything is actually happening.

I've tried: Force quit from Calendar, rebooting, disconnecting from internet, trying to turn off Calendar synch in iCloud (can't do it, as the checkbox is grayed out & has the pinwheel next to it).  Someone said to delete all settings in Library/calendar but when I look in Library I don't see calendar as a subdirectory.  I'm not a power-user under the hood so maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.

Anyway, all the obvious fixes don't work.  Any other suggestions out there?  Thanks.

Oh, and PhotoStream still isn't working.

Hey all, I had the same problem. Everyone seemed to have different solutions that worked for them--but not for me . Here's what actually fixed my problem.

    1. Force quit iCal and Reminders.

    2. On your computer, unlink Calendars and Reminders from iCloud:

    > System Preferences > iCloud > Uncheck Calendars AND Reminders

(I did this because my Reminders uses my Calenders; I set deadlines for reminders, etc. Also, because my reminders weren't syncing with my iCloud as they should.)

    3. It'll ask if you want to delete the calendar and reminder events from your computer. Say yes because you should already have the most up-to-date copy on your iCloud.

    4. Open iCal. It should no longer display the "moving calendars to server account" message.

    5. Add your iCloud account to iCal.

    > Calendar > Add Account... > iCloud > Sign in with Apple ID and PW

    6. Give it a minute to update. You should see all your iCloud calendar events with no error message.

    7. Quit iCal. Open Reminders.

    8. Add your iCloud account to Reminders.

    > Reminders > Add Account... > iCloud > Sign in with Apple ID and PW

    9. Test the two programs by adding test events and reminders to see if they show up on your iPhone and your Macbook.

    It worked for me!

    Hope this helps you!
