No sure what software I'm using. I switched to Mountain Lion about 1/2 year ago. Not sure which software I am using. I want to drag files into the CD window, but cannot drag them. Please advise what to do.
I am pretty confused.
CD / DVD burning is built in to Mountain Lion. In the Finder, you select a file or folder, then go to File / Burn .. to disc. That's it.
If your files are in many different places, you can put them all into a Burn Folder. In Finder, go to File / New Burn Folder. The makes a folder on the desktop that looks like this:
Drag the files you want to burn to this folder, then select the folder and use the burn command. The files in the Burn Folder are aliases, so after the burn is done you just trash that folder.
The only dragging you do is to the Burn Folder, there is no "CD window".
I created a CD with 3 files in it, by using the new Burn Folder and it worked. Thanks!
I'm just a little confused about if I just wanted to put one file in my CD.
You mentioned to go into finder, and select a file or folder to burn.
But when I go into Finder, I don't see any files to burn. If I go into finder and click on file, it lists types of folders and a few other things, but no files. Maybe I can go into my document folder, because that is where most of my files are. How would that work if I wanted to burn a CD with only one file?
You use a Burn Folder when there are bunch of things you want to burn to the same CD.
But if it's just one - file or folder - select it and use the command in the Menu bar.
In the Finder, click on a File (or Folder), and then select "Burn (name of the file) to Disc" from the File menu in the menu bar.
In this image I have selected the file "RemoveFlashback.log", which happens to be on my desktop. The command in the File menu responds to my selection. It's almost all the way at the bottom.
Click there, and follow the instructions.
When you went into Finder and clicked on File, the file you wanted to burn ("RemoveFlashback.log") was listed.
But when I tried it my file was not listed. No file was listed. To begin, I clicked on a file in my document folder. Then I went into Finder, then Find. But the file I wanted was not listed. There was an item in the menu called "Burn Documents to Disc", but it listed no specific document. Not sure if this is what I was supposed to click. There were no specific files listed, although there is one in your example above.
You did not select the file itself. You selected the Documents folder, but not the file inside. As you navigate through the contents of your drive, the last item you click on (file or folder) is the one that will be shown in the "Burn to ..." command.
I clearly remember going into my documents folder January 10 and clicking on a specific file. But that specific file did not show up when I went into Finder, then File. No specific file was listed. Maybe someone can go over this step by step.
