Q: Macbook 13 inch late 2006 model black RAM question.

Hi, I have a Macbook 13 inch late 2006 and it currently has 1 GB of RAM installed. I found 4GB of RAM and I know that it is %100 compatible and Apple says the max RAM the computer would use is 4GB, but if I got 6GB of RAM would the computer use it all or just leave a bunch of unused RAM?

A late '06 McBook will use 3gB of RAM, no more.

Maximum Memory 3.0 GB (Actual) 2.0 GB (Apple)

Thats what it says, but I also have a Macbook Pro mid 2012 and Apple says the maximum RAM it uses is 8GB yet I installed 16 anyway and it uses up to 15 GB.

Ok so here is where I am confused right HERE, it says that the maximum memory for a macbook late 2006 model is 4 GB, but right HERE it says the maximum is 2? Am I looking at two different models or something? I don't understand.

I may be seeing things, but I see both your links as stating the late '06 MacBook uses 2gB of RAM.

You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.
