How are you accessing your Mac now? Through a guest account? You can always reset the password for a given user via your Recovery partition.
Boot your Mac whilest holding down the COmmand and R keys - this will take you to your rRecovery partition. There will be menus above the main Recovery window. Go under Utilities and open Terminal. In Terminal, type:
...a small app will open allowing you to choose the user for whom you want to enter a new password. Enter the new password twice, giving yourself a good hint, and click OK, then restart your computer and begin using the new password.
