You've got a bad graphics card. Apple will replace it fee of charge for up to 3 years from date of purchase. See here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088

Do you have another Apple Certified repair center in the area?

Those NVDAResman hits in the backtrace and the dual GT330Ms are pretty well indicative of the problem.

And, ask them if they can explain why you get KPs on a clean installation if that is not the problem.

  • Barney-15E Level 7 Level 7 (33,550 points)

Sorry, I think you are being screwed by that store.

Any way you can contact AppleCare, ask for a senior tech, and explain how the Repair center refused to complete the tests and wouldn't fix the Mac.

Don't pay for any AppleCare tech support fee. Reference the article and ask that Apple intervene and get the problem resolved.

Have you tried a clean install of OSX ML i think it will help also check for the corrupt fonts http://funbird.co.uk/tech-articals/mac-tech-articals/microsoft-word-for-mac-cras hing-due-to-font-conflicts/ as per my experience ML is far much better then SL specially in speed and compatiablity with other softwares. I Do suggest you to upgrade

I have been suffering the same issue since upgrading to Lion, Mountain Lion is even more sensitive.  I have one definite fix and one maybe fix for this.  The definite fix which worked for me was to install the drivers from the Retail_256.01.00f03v7.dmg package.  You have to open the install package with show contents then go into the Contents\Packages folder and install the three packages separately there.  One major downside, it seems that whilst this cures the NVDARESMAN crash, it also disables some 3D functionality from the card, for example VMWare reports the graphics driver as having no 3D capability, I've also noticed that some toggle buttons on certain apps are not visible.

So, I backed out to Lion default drivers again and thought I would live with the twice daily crashes and see how it goes.  I also was wondering if this is heat related so downloaded the excellent iStat Menus app and thought I would see if it's an over heat issue as this logs sensor temperatures, you can also set the fans so I had them slightly higher than normal and kept the temperature down.  Worked all day with no crashes and thought maybe I was on to something, I couldn't believe it.

I travel to work by motorbike and today there's a cold snap in London, my MB-Pro was icy cold, I booted up confident that the machine would work all day long and it crashed three times on the trot as soon as the Discrete card was used (plugged into monitor) with the same NVDARESMAN error.  Drat I thought, what now, anyway, off to lunch, with iStat still running, came back and ka-bam NVDARESMAN crash.  Checked the iStat temperatures and the CPU and GPU temperatures were very low when I logged back in.  So I decided to test if I could crash the machine by running the fans full steam at 6000 revs and sure enough when the GPU drops below a certain temperature ka-bam the NVDARESMAN crash occurs!!!!  See screenshot

So I've just written a small java program to keep the CPU from idle to see if I can prevent the machine crashing but seems bizarre that you have to run at a certain temperature to function correctly, usually electronics love super-cooling??

Would be interested to hear from Apple if they have any experience of the hardware being too cold to function correctly?

Or maybe it is the amps in the GPU which would make more sense, tries to spin up but not enough power so dies, see associated graph below:

Posting more panic logs won't help. You have no third party extensions, so the only thing left is a hardware problem.

If you've added RAM, try going back to the original RAM, or check it with Rember. Disconnect all external peripherals.

Run the extended hardware tests in the Apple Hardware Tests. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509

If it doesn't find anything wrong, backup, erase the drive and reinstall mountain lion. If it still fails, you have an internal hardware fault.

    It's exacly the same problem.

You are lucky, because Apple is repairing all Mid 2010 MacBooks Pro with a defective NVIDIA graphic card for free. Make a backup of your data and take the Mac to an Apple Store or reseller

  • Milan Levy Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

    Thank You.

I am not in USA I am in South Africa

    What must I do here?

  • mende1 Level 10 Level 10 (89,490 points)

Search a reseller. If there aren't any resellers, you can't repair the Mac
