Q: Can I connect the same Mac via ethernet cable AND wireless at the same time?
With my new Generation 5 Airport Extreme I am wondering if I can connect the same Mac via ethernet cable AND wireless at the same time?-- I wish to do this so that via the wireless I can be sure that my iPad automatically syncs each morning at 7:00 am (via Power Manager to wake my Mac and run the sync) –AND– also to have the wired ethernet cable attached so that I can access my Airport Extreme via Airport Utility. (If the cable is NOT connected then I just see a notification that the Apple Extreme is NOT connected).
My setup is:
- My Internet Service Provider (ISP) modem has an ethernet cable running from it to the WAN port of my Apple Extreme.
- I then have an ethernet cable going from a LAN port of the Apple Extreme to my MacBook Pro 13" (May 2010) running Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
- I also have another ethernet cable going from another LAN port on the Apple Extreme to my eMac (Feb 2005 – no WiFi) running Mac OS 10.5.11 Leopard.
- I am trying to connect my 1997 vintage Apple LaserWriter 12/640PS to the third ethernet LAN port via cable (with an Appletalk adapter) - let's see if I can get that to be recognized, may have to fire-up my G4-733 running OS 9.2.2 to get the printer settings working…
- I also have a powered Belkin 7-port USB hub connected to the USB port on the Apple Extreme. I wish to connect both a *LaCie 300 mb drive to that as well as my Canon MP640 printer/scanner. (I have already connected the Canon printer without the hub and it works great on my little home-office network –– hopefully the hub with the added hard drive will not cause a problem).
*Wondering if my iPad3 will be able to "see" that hard drive. Certainly not… or? But the eMac and my PowerBook G4 (12" – Feb 2005, wireless) should be able to see the external hard drive, correct?
Thanks for any and all comments.
Best regards,
Steve Schulte
