I have serveral Macs at home and I need a good time machine back up solition.  Right now I have a LaCie 5Big Network 2 10TB that is maxed out.  So I bought a Xserve (2008) to use a TM server running OSX 10.7.5 server .  I was going to add some OWC rack pro storage.  Is it better to use Mini SAS (which I will have to buy a card for) or stick with FW800 to chain them together.  Mind you the Xserve will be connected to the network through ethernet, so I dont know that the data transfer rate between the machines doesn't need to be be faster than the incomming connection in my opinion.  Please help.  If you have a different opinion please feel free to share.  My needs are for scalability for home/professional use.

I wish the old XRAIDs accepted SATA.

Xserve, Mac OS X (10.7.5), Server
