Q: White Screen when waking up from sleep, w/mouse freeze

I have a Mac Book Pro Mid 2012 13"

after updating the last 10.8.2 update when the mac wakes from sleep, (hard sleep) the screen is white and takes a bit to wake, and takes even more time for the mouse to move.

is anyone else having this issue?

there was no problem before update

    I have the same exact problem.  It's been driving me crazy!.  Been to Genius Bar, done a fresh install of Mountain Lion, and read a million posts.  Still no solution for me

    it is driving me crazy too.

    waiting for a firmware update to solve it, but this cannot be good for my mac book pro, you can feel the pain in the machine as it tries to start, the grinding noise on the hardrive that is wearing out our mac book pro, and the way the mouse won't work for that brief period of time.  I have had to work out a jimmy using and external bluetooth mouse to get the mouse to come back working, since the track pad is frozen for seconds after the white screen goes away if using the trackpad.

    I just read in your other post that you went backward to lion up to right before the 10.8.2 update to get rid of it, is that still working?

    I also have a MBP 13" from mid 2012.  Just "woke up" perfectly after 8 hours of sleep.  Its been 4 days since my fresh install of ML with the MacBook 2.0 udate not installed.  So far, so good.

    Skitchone, you saved me, thank you so SO much.  No more horrible noise and dead trackpad.  I had to take my APP store symbol out of my dock so not to see the large red 1. Hope more folks will be helped, having the Mid 2012 mac book pro won't be easy for many, when they upload the 2.0 update.  Apple is good at acting fast, I'm sure their on it already and a firmware fix is in the works.  Again thanks for finding my post, if not for that I would still be in noise ****.

    This is a problem with all 2012 MacBook Pros that have applied the update DL1609 via Software Update.  This update is called MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Update 2.0.  The only fix that exists for this is to reinstall OSX and just not install this update when it shows in the available updates list in the AppStore.  Just hide it until this issue is fixed by Apple.

    If your OSX 10.8.2 version is anything after version (12C60) then you will have this problem.  The problem is as follows.  With the system asleep with clamshell closed, plugging and unplugging the power cable causes the system to wake up and go back to sleep.  Additionally, leaving the system plugged into power for over 4 hours will cause the system to go into hibernation, but only when plugged in.  If it's not connected to AC power while sleeping for that long, it will not enter hibernation.

    Please call Apple and complain about this problem.  I have been working with them for over a month and a half trying to get them to fix this and it's a major hand-holding process because they didn't initially understand the issue.  Add to that the fact that they insisted that this problem doesn't exist and it just made it that much harder to get them to see the issue.

    You need to call them AppleCare and let them know you're having this problem.  Along with that, email the rep you're working with links to every Apple Support Forum thread you can find on this.  Trust me, there are several with this same exact problem.

    Has anyone found a solution to this white screen and mouse freezing upon wake up problem?  I had this as well on my mid 2011 rMBP running latest version of Mountain Lion.  When the mouse eventually starts working I can move the mouse to reveal the desktop or open windows underneath.

    I set my energy saver setting to never go to sleep so I do not have this problem but I am thinking it is not good for computer to never go to sleep.  I usually power down each night.

    Any information regarding this is appreciated!

    I am having the same problem with the white screen as well.  My version of OSX is 10.8.3

    I have done a PRAM reset and unplugged the power for 30 seconds as well.

    Does anyone have a solution???????

    There is no solution.  Did you not read my post?  Your only option is to disable the setting in PM that does this but that's not a solution, but only a bandaid for the real issue.

    sudo pmset autopoweroff 0 is the command in Terminal to change this.

    Yes I did.  Mine is not with the MacBook.  It is with the iMac.

    I have called Apple and they have walked me through everything and they throw up their hands because they do not know what it is.

    Hopefully the next update will fix the problem.

    Then this doesn't apply to you.  Did you try a full OS reload?  Does it happen in safe mode as well?  It's very possible that it's a software issue for you as in an OS installation issue or a 3rd party app problem.

    I did some testing with certain programs open and the white screen wake up seems to only come up when my mail is the front open program.

    Any ideas?

    Apparently this behavior is a "feature":

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1757?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

    One solution seems to be to set autopoweroff to 0 in the terminal.

    To see your current settings:

    $ pmset -g

    To turn autopoweroff to 0:

    $ sudo pmset -a autopoweroff 0
