I've been using Clip (region) Gain in Pro Tools a lot lately... & gotta say it's the bomb! Hoping we'll see something similar in the next version of Logic?

Reminds me of an idea I had a while back : https://discussions.apple.com/message/12378933#12378933

But maybe Apple missed that one...

    Hi

There already is an audio region gain function in the Region Parameters in the Inspector (or am I missing something?)

    Hi CCTM...

Not quite the same... if you haven't checked out Clip Gain in PT, I'd suggest you do - it's quite impressive. It allows you to re-scale regions on the fly (during playback & non-destructively with the aid of a slider). Also, to my ears, it has no adverse affect on audio quality (if used sensibly).

Looking at each company's stock value, i'd say Avid missed a couple more than Apple... :-)

Right, they should also sell phones!

Let's not forget that Apple's stock worth is mainly from iPhones and iPads.

Apple is basically giving Logic away for free not really caring if it's pirated as long as it sells hardware, not the greatest amount of respect for the innovative software that it used to be.

    +1 Pancenter

Avid don't sell phones or tablets (but neither do Steinberg, Motu, Ableton, or Presonus) - & for a good reason; it allows them to concentrate at what their good at. Similarly, I haven't heard of any plans for Samsung, Nokia or Motorola to bring out their own DAW . (I'm a Blackberry man anyway!)

I'm still optimistic of a new version of Logic that will reset the DAW benchmark... but when?!! I guess the original point I was trying to make is that Apple (or the Logic team) should be scouring these pages for users input - they certainly have the resources. Feedback forms are all well & good, but how many people acually take the time to complete them, or have ever received a reply?

Oh,and BTW has BIP arrived in PTools yet? And how about 64 bit?

    Cheers.

I read the discussion at the link, and I think they missd your point. It sems like what you're suggestion is the audio versin if MIDI editing of individual notes, as opposed to MIDI compression. Is that it?

... and just to add a bit of excitement, there is a DAW called Samplitude, made by a little company called MAGIX, that had clip gain for several years now. There is also something called "object-based editing", which allows you to add separate effects chains to individual regions.

The only thing I don't like about it is, that they haven't migrated to OSX .... yet.

Chant it with me . . . CLIP GAIN! CLIP GAIN! CLIP GAIN! CLIP GAIN!

It would keep me from ever ever ever opening up Nuendo again.

I will be glad to make coffee if that will help make it happen

kcstudio - you are absolutely correct. And it is in the track inspector as a parameter.

PTools, Cubase and Nuendo have it right on the region clip in the main track area. No need to go anywhere else. Grab a node already on the clip and move the gain up and down by +/- db increments. 1 step process. Once you have gotten used to that, you miss it.

Seems like Logic is SO CLOSE to having it in on the clip in the track area. So close . . . thanks for the reply.
