Once completed I now have my imac user and my user from the old machine. How do I finally combine the two so I only have the new user and everything old is under the new user.

Move the files to /Users/Shared/ and then into the new account, or drag one account's home folder to the other account's desktop and authenticate yourself.

so I go to the old user and pull everything into share and then I can go to the imac user and move from shared to appropriate folder. The drag method seem good but I am not clear how I have both user open at the same time is that possible

You don't need to. Log in with each individually for its part of the process.

when I was asking about opening both I was referring to your earlier comment about "drag one account's home folder to the other accounts desktop and authenticate yourself" So no matter what account is open the desktop is the same and if that is true then opening one and then the other makes sense. I also not clear on authenticate. How do I do that other than once I get the home directory over there I just drag and drop what I want to keep in the new user.

It doesn't matter which account you're moving the folder to; when dragging it, you'll be asked to provide an administrator username and password. After it's on the desktop, go through it and move the files to the desired location; if you need to access the library in either folder, open the home folder itself, choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, and provide Library as the path.

I will get started and see how it goes. I think I understand. Thanks for such quick response.
