No hardware failure on the new machine that I know of.  Its only a couple months old and I haven't had issues other than this imovie problem.   I originally used Migration Assistant to indeed transfer all files from old mac to new mac including the imovie projects and events.  I didn't think that doing a manual export from the old machine's imovie events or projects to a drive and then to new machine would be required. But this transfer might be the reason.

Since I have back-up on old mac for imovie events and projects. I could wipe out the projects and events on this new mac and re-build the events I have. There are not many.  Then try to work with new or existing imported project.  I'll try this.

I am sorry to repeat this again, but this post covers a totally different topic and hope that a moderator will move our conversations to the right one.

It seems that you done some manual iMovie project moves on your own, without consulting the manual or the online Help.  In your latest reply, you also want to wipe out all the iMovie event on your own on the new Mac…

I would highly suggest to bring your new Mac to the nearest Apple store in your area and tell a Genius employee exactly what you want to transfer between the two machines. If you want to recover and restore those files, I would also suggest not to delete projects and iMovie files on your own, prior to Apple store visit.

Thanks BookX I appreciate all your help and debug.  Sorry if this is not the appropriate thread.  The initial thread start was about iMovie not saving projects and changes, which is what happened to me. I did 4 hours of edit work on a project only to have it not save.  The thread started with a user having this same lost work issue.  It seems that you have found a new possible cause that will help the community -- incorrect transfer of imovie events and projects between Macs. Cheers!

No worries at all… Sorry to hear that you lost time with the project.

If I can't get a clear picture of the whole situation, then I can't speculate a solution and ultimately, I can only suggest the appropriate "doors." I can't foreseen things…

I am sure you'll get the best help at the store.

    Have a great day!

Helps to know I'm not alone here. It's so aggravating that a bug like this is going on for so long.

The only work around I found was to copy the text from the title then delete the title from the timeline. Add a new title in and then paste in the text. Of course you have to reset other things like the length.

    Come On Apple!!

I have experienced the problem of changes not being saved due to "no space or not write permissions" on my 2 week old iMac. Not being used to the Mac or iMovie, I ignored the message, but then realised it lost me 2 hours of work.

But, I've managed to fix it (so far so good anyway). For those who have the problem still, this may work for you...

...I went through all Movie folders and made sure I had read/write access to all folders: Movies, iMovie Projects, iMovie Events. For each folder, right click Get Info, unlock the padlock and enter your password, select your user name in Sharing & Permissions, open the Settings menu at the bottom of the window and click "Apply to enclosed items". Make sure you do this for all Movie folders.

Next time i opened the project and made some changes, a message popped up to say the save problem has been fixed. Sure enough, it does seem to be so far.

    Hope this helps.

    Peter

I dont know if I'm having the same problem, but I'm new to Imovie and whenever I edit something from a selected clip, then watch only the selected clip the edited part shows up. But, whenever i watch the whole thing it doesn't show my edits. It doesn't show any of them, not even ones that aren't titles. Please help and tell me if this is the same bug or not. I've been trying and trying for days to edit this one video but it wont go and now im getting really frustrated. PLEASE HELP!!!!

    Hi everyone,

I haven't read all the messages, but I remember looking here when I was really struggling with iMovie losing my edits. It is only a workaround for the loss of title edits, not actual clip edits/crops etc., but I found that if I copied text from one title to another it nearly always reverted to the original text after closing and reopening the project. However, if I copy the text so I have the right font etc, rewrite the content and then copy that again into a new title it never loses the title with the newly copied text.

Really hope that saves some of you some of the frustration that I've experienced. Apologies to those it didn't come close to helping. Good to know we've all screamed at iMovie at some point though.

The solution is to always highlight the text you are adding or editing, then click "done", not your return key.  This will save your changes and titles.  It took me hours to figure this out, but finally I did. Duplicating alone does not help and may not even be necessary.

Highlighting everything you are doing, then click done: acts like a SAVE function.

    Crazy....

Lost weeks of late night work as well...  Glad I am not the only one, I thought I was doing something wrong.

Here it is 2013 and there is no end resolution.

I've tried this and every other workaround on this thread, and nothing keeps my files from randomly reverting some of the text and type styles to earlier versions. I've had Apple support working with me for two sessions to fix the problem with no success. I've lost days of work, missed deadlines and had to recreate the titles and text five times. It's unbelievable that so many people have been having this problem for so long, and there is no solution yet. Once this project is finished, I won't touch iMovie again.

I've never been so frustrated using a Mac as I am with iMovie! After reinputting all titles for a previous movie I edited 3 times, I realized that there was a serious issue. It created an additional 4 hrs of work! I've read through forum after forum and determined that NOTHING will help my situation until Apple puts a fix out. I've highlighted all the titles prior to clicking done, only to find my 3 hrs of work last night erased and every other fix doesn't seem to help. What's even more frustrating is that this thread dates back over 2 years!!!!! Get your **** together and fix it APPLE!!!!! I can only imagine what Steve would have said if these problems were occuring for 2 years! It's a **** disgrace and someone should lose their job because of it.  This is the type of stuff that Microsoft does and thinks its ok. I'm as diehard as it gets with Apple products having 2 iPads, 3 Apple TV's, iphone and 2 macs, but stupid crap likes this makes me feel like they are losing it. I'm forced to never quit iMovie while I'm working on a project for fear that their "auto-save" feature won't work. Why take away save feature that ensures its right and add something that hasn't worked since the '09 version!!

It is definitely driving me away from iMovie.

Frustration has taken it's grip on me!
