Rice may help, but if this started happening after the water, then it most likely is water damaged. Do you have applecare+? Call a technical support agent and they can diagnostic report the device to determine for sure.

Thanks for the reply, I tried this last night but the signal still doesn't work. Would you recommend anything else?

Turn your phone off & try don't try switching it on...doing so "may" short things out. You can "try" putting the phone in a ziploc bag of dried rice...Silica Gel Pacs work best... for 3 ~ 5 days, then hope things work. Apple does have an out of warranty replacement program, & the cost for an iPhone 5 is US $229.
Use the rice now, then get the Silica Pacs.
Make an appointment at any Apple store.
