Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
AirPrint requires a Wi-Fi printer and it requires that the printer connects through Wi-Fi with the router, so you have to buy a new printer if your printer hasn't got a Wi-Fi connection

Thanks for the quick reply.
So am I correct in saying trying to utilise the Airport Express to access the printer over the network was a wasted effort due to the latest iOS? I had read up on the express before purchase and believed that was one of it's main purposes.
Thanks again for the help.

The AirPort Express has a feature that allows you to share a printer, but that's only for PCs and Macs. An iPhone, iPod touch and iPad require that the printer connects through Wi-Fi to your router

aaah finally an answer that makes sense.
Looks like I'm in the market for a new printer with wifi/AirPrint capabilities. I'm guessing there are specific printers with this AirPrint capable software in them.
Thanks a million
