Next time this happens try turning the TV off and on again, this will tell you whether it's a TV problem or an Apple TV problem.

It happened again tonight. I turned off the HDTV and waited a few moments. When I turned it back on, the AppleTVwas still flickering. So, I think it's still the AppleTV... any thoughts or advice?

If it's under warranty, take it back.

I'm having the same issue, albeit right out of the box. I hooked up my Apple TV according to the instructions, have no other issues with my wifi, and the HDMI and power cables are all securely connected. My TV's also a Samsung, experiecing the same "flickering" of audio. In addition, during set-up, the screen was also flickering to white while inputting my wifi info.
Am hoping swapping it out in store will fix the problem. I was so excited to get my AppleTV in the mail and everything else Apple-to-TV has been working great. (I had my ancient black MacBook -turning 6 in June- hooked up with zero connectivity problems.) Wondering if this will be an ongiong issue? Had decided against AppleCare for such an inexpensive addition to my home, but maybe I should re-think that decision...

test with another tv if it does it there then it's the appletv or cable

I'll likely tinker around with it a bit tonight, exchange it Sunday if I'm unsuccessful, and if it's still causing me headaches after swapping it out at Future Shop, test it out at my buddy's place Monday evening.
As an aside, I've already tested the HDMI cable with video and sound, and the HDTV with a DVD player hooked up, and both worked flawlessly; it's combined with the ATV that it runs into issues... Definitely put a damper on my new-gadget excitement.

A DVD player only requires a standard HDMI cable, the Apple TV should have a high speed cable. I'm not saying this is your problem, but a standard cable may well work fine with the DVD player but exhibit just the type of issues reported when using the Apple TV.

Thanks Winston. Much appreciated. Will try it with a higher speed cable and see if that sorts me out.
