Q: Has anyone had a problem with airplay mirroring a 2012 MacBook Air?

I have the new macbook air and i upgraded to mountain lion (after a three day code delay) and i am trying air play mirror mode because it was the one feature i really wanted. Now im getting an extreme lag. Once it begins to work i am getting sound but the video is in still frames every 5-10 seconds, I have the newest apple tv as well. Does anyone else have this problem, is there a fix. Its not my router because i dont have problems streaming anything else over my network.

Thanks but I have an apple tv 3rd gen with the most updated software.

I also have a new MBP retina so the latest there =)

It works great on ipad3 but on my macbook it is appalling.

Not sure if this will help you or not, but I had the same situation - tried everything. iPad and iPhone worked like a charm. I am using Time Capsule for my wireless (less than 2 years old) and not too long after I got the Apple TV3 I had to update it due to issues with the backup.

Long story short, with the new wifi the mirroring finally looks good. I never thought I had latency issues with the wifi (strong signal too) but after the updated machine it works really well on the mbp. For what it is worth.

Do you think I still need the time capsule and airport express when I already have a wifi modem?  Is time capsule more powerful?

Thanks for your help with this guys.

I don't know that you need the new TC/Airport option, but the latest TC specs are pretty good. Maybe just look to your wifi modem specs to see what the comparison is. Just a thought, because I had the exact same issue and basically wrote off any solution and when I had to get the new TC the situation rectified itself.

When I was having this problem I resolved it by messing with my wifi settings. I was using a dual band base station and I believe I turned one of them off. It was definintely a wifi problem though, not software related.

I had the same problem. No lag with my iPhone4S an iPad mini, but with MBAir 13,3" i5, 8GB Ram latest 2012 no pissibilitty to watch anythink. Wi-fi 5GHz on Belkin N600. I changed the connection of the ATV3 from Wireles to Wired and now it works perfectly. Really crazy behaviour of MBAIr.

I have been having the same problem and I actually had downgraded back to Lion out of dissapointment but decded to come back today.  The mirroring from my MBP is actually perfect.  No complains there.  Only issue is the micro delay of the mouse.  I was using a Blutooth white mouse.  If I use the track pad on MBP, actually, the delay is minimal.  Almost acceptable.  If you pay attention.  It is about the same delay you experience between apple remote and ATV2.  Btw, I am completely wired, so you cannot blame it on the WIfi.  For now.. I am going to blame it on my old ATV2.  I have spoken to many people and almost nobody I know is experiencing this, or maybe they just don't notice it as much as we do  :-)

I also have the same problem. MBP 15" Retina, ATV2 and Time Capsule. Video lags ALOT.

    Any solution to this yet?

I have a MBP 15 Inch Retina & just bought an Apple TV3 thinking it was going to be a piece of cake.  Definately wrong.

Got the black screen of death and then came here to this thread & cleared out the Library Deamons, etc in the LIbary folder.  This helped me get an image on the screen, but the lag was insane.  I can't even call it lag because it just showed an image of my desktop but nothing reflected anything I was actually doing on my computer.

I guess I'll look into the wifi now, but wondering why this has to be so difficult.

I had the same problem with my 2012 Mac Air.  My iPad Mini worked perrfectly from the same location in the house but the MacBook suddenly started stuttering on both video and audio.  It did the same with iTunes tracks.  Then I remembered that I had changed channels on a video sender transmitting from the Sky Box to a set in the kitchen.  I reset the video sender channels and the ATV problem disappeared.

I have Macbook Air 2012 and ATV 3 and I'm having the same problem. AirParrot reduced the lag and fits the whole of my 21:9 screen
