Need a workflow to burn AVCHD camcorder video and 5.1 surround sound to BluRay disc.
I’m trying to burn a BluRay DVD from outputs of my new Panasonic AVCHD camcorder: “1920x1080 video AND 5.1 surround sound” , together on one BD/R.
I currently use Final Cut Studio 2 (FCP 7.0.3, Compressor 3.5.4, Soundtrack 3.0.1) on an Intel iMac with OS 10.6.3
I can convert the camcorder’s MTS files with AUNSOFT / PAVTUBE or CLIPWRAP creating a ProRes 422 file with six channels of audio.
When dragged into the time line of FCP 7, the converted test file from the camera is a “.mov” file which looks like this:
Wish I could edit this file here in FCP7, and then use the SHARE function of FCP7 to proceed to a BluRay burning to disc. There’s no way to do this, as far as I can tell.
I exported the six individual audio channels and used APACK to create a single AC3 file.
I exported the single video channel using QT conversion to an H264 file.
I then tried to place the individual H264 and AC3 files into the BluRay job pane of Compressor 3.4, but apparently this action cannot be done.
According to the Compressor 3 Help manual, only a single file (video/audio) can be dragged into the Job Pane thumbnail (small square with a down arrow). Dragging additional files will remove any of the previous files dragged into this area.
What I can do in the job pane is to drag the converted test ProRes “.mov” file with 5.1 sound (created by ClipWrap) into the job pane and successfully burn a BluRay disc. When I playback the disc on my home BluRay and surround sound systems, it all seems to work.
How could I do editing of these MTS to ProRes 422/5.1 files, if not in FCP7 but some other way?
Is Compressor 4 able to take separate H264 or AC3 files into the job pane and burn a BluRay disc.
Can Compressor 4 take MTS file directly from the camcorder into the Job Pane (I doubt this)
Toast burns BluRay but I can’t find any evidence that it can handle surround sound.
Encore trial does not activate unless payment is received.
I could set up OS10.6.8 on an external clone, purchase Compressor 4, and hope it could be used to integrate H264 and AC3 files. It would be nice to know that it could before I spend the money. Reviewing some of the forums, there is not much difference moving up to Compressor 4
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank in advance,
