New iPhone 5, home button almost never works. I occasionally get Siri (which isn't helpful) but mostly have to restart the phone to get out of whatever app I'm in. ANNOYING!!!

iPhone 5, iOS 6.0.2, Bought new just before Christmas.

Just to cover the obvious, you did peel the protective plastic covering the phone came with? It does not have prepunched holes for the button and the earpiece so the phone will work poorly with it on. Genuine scratch protectors that do have the appropriate cutouts are found at any respectable accessories dealer.

Else, has the phone been moistened accidentally? A wet home button will probably start failing like you mention.

Lastly, remember you're still on warranty for a year, even if you got it on Day One.

First you should reset your phone, hold the home and off button down until the apple symbol comes up. If that doesnt fix, then Restore your phone in itunes from your backup, then restore as new if from backup doesnt fix. If all the above doesnt fix, then make an appointment with an apple genius bar to let them check it out or replace it.
