Remember though that speedtest is testing from one server, default is close to your location.  Apple's servers are probably in Cupertino.  I have a 10Mbps drop in internet speed testing to a server in california.  My speedtest to a server in Toledo, shows 30.56Mbps all the time.  California servers give me anywhere from 15-20 Mbps.  Still pretty fast, but slower.

This is exactly my problem, ozsmacd. Speedtest fine (although does freeze momentarily sometimes), but downloads of large files are glacially slow, to the point of being unusable (including podcasts). I just wonder how many people have this problem without knowing it. I mean, web browsing and email appear OK, but they're not downloading large files typically. Happens to me on all networks I've tested, including Apple stores. iPhones 4S right next to an iphone 5 downloads super-fast.

I ran a download from my iphone 5 and my iphone 4 at the same time, and my 5 finished quite a bit faster than the 4.  I'm running 6.0.1.  I evidently don't have the problem you are encountering.  Hope Apple works out the bugs for everyone on the upcoming 6.1.  I'm not overly happy with battery life, or cell signal strength on my 5.  With the 4 and 5 side by side here at home, the 4 has 4 bars, and the 5 has 3 bars.  Sound quality on the 5 is fine though.  Battery life is my worst problem right now.  Barely using the phone (2 or 3 calls 1/2 hour each) and some emails and light web surfing, and my battery life is below 50% for the day.

Can I ask what you downloaded and where from mark_mark896?

I did an update on Angry Birds Seasons 3.1.1.  I figured it was enough data to give me a decent test.

I'm not 100% certain that all downloads are treated equally. I've never noticed app downloads being particularly slow. Podcasts via the Podcasts app are snails-pace. 20MB file from Dropbox? Forget it! Download all your Evernote notes for offline use? Mine takes hours vs minutes on iPhone 4S. As a lot of people have said, there seem to be different problems affecting different people. I'd love you to try a big download from Dropbox though, just to see if you can recreate the problem.

I just set up a dropbox account.  I transferred 422 pictures at about 3MB each.  They seem to be coming over to the phone from my entertainment center computer pretty quickly.  Both devices are on my home network.  So far approximately 120MB in 7 minutes.  BTW, dropbox is pretty dam cool!  220MB in 12 minutes now.

Looks like my average throughput using dropbox is approximately 2Mbps.  Not terrible considering that it's copying photos from my computer to a server somewhere, then sending it to the phone.  181 pictures in 32 minutes so far.  181*2.7MB (average) = 488MB in 32 min.  15MB/min.*8 = 122Mb/min /60 = about 2mbps.

326 files in an hour.  Average 2.7 MB per file...  Still about 2Mbps average over an hour of running.

Alright guys I was one of the guys that claimed my wifi was okay and there is a problem.... Those speed tests are deceiving because they appear to be fine and sending a picture via email here and there and web browsing is fine... How ever when I tried streaming some video is where you will see the problem.... My wifi at home will not play this without stopping every few seconds... The only way I can play this is by using my 4LTE and I tried this on another iPhone I just bought last week and same results.... I have a cable modem and I also tried my iPad 3 and it will stream video fine via wifi.... Just also tried a 4th generation iPod and it plays the video fine and builds up video way better then the iPhone5.... The iPhone5 will barely build up and gets stuck for a while guys....

Try and play this link below guys and let me know what you find...

That's interesting.  When I play that link with my Mac (over WiFi), it starts playing nearly immediately, and doesn't stop.   When I play it with my iPhone 5, sitting right next to my Mac, it takes a long time to start, and then only plays for a few seconds and then has to stop and buffer again.

WiFi problem?  Maybe.  But maybe not.  I can turn right around and play an HD video I like off of Netflix or YouTube on that same iPhone, sitting in the same spot, immediately after the above test, and they play flawlessly.   App downloads and Airplay of HD videos also work fine.

So I'm not sure what to make of that.  But I think there's more to it than just WiFi, at least in the case of the above video.

Yep, something funky still going on.  My iphone 5 stops constantly on your link I assume to buffer.  my old iphone 4 runs it without any problem.  They are sitting beside each other, and on the same wireless network.  Iphone 4 has run 7 minutes of that video so far non stop.  iphone 5 couldn't get 1 minute non stop.

A new problem I'm seeing - I turned on the auto brightness on the iphone 5 yesterday to try to help with my battery problems.  Every time this phone goes dormant and I wake it up, the brightness is set at minimum.  Is that Apples answer to poor battery life?  Dim the screen down so much that we cant read it?

I have the very same problem and I can't tell how frustrated I am with this Iphone 5:

-) My Wi Fi worked just fine for about 3 days. After that, my wif fi connections started to drop every 2 minutes and when it's connected it's just way to slow (painfully slow). I did everything, restore, reboot, hard reboot, restore from scratch, everything, and it just don't work

-) I'm not living in the US and after calling the "very well known apple support" they just said "you need to replace your phone in the US". Any other choices: "NO". No international support, no UPS, no getting support call ... all that apple says about their support did not work for me, and my phone is still broken.

-) Sometimes my phone, when searching Wi Fi or trying to connect to them just freeze and I need to re start ... just to have the chance to use it as a phone.

I'm an apple user since ever; and it was because the promise of a good support what I most liked. I'm so frustrated after this, that I really don't think that apple products will worth what we paid if quality is not ensured. Wi Fi should be something that should be checked for months before releasing this sort of products, and let me tell you that Quality Assurance wasn't ensured, at least for my phone and the ones that are complaining for the same issue in this blog.

I'm still waiting for apple to surprise me and get a call telling me that my new phone is on its way to Argentina ..... is there any body there!? i don't think so.

Apple is already a massive company, without good support ... or support at all at least outside the US. It's a shame ...

Talk about a cheesy test website. A video about Pablo Escobar with questionable requirements for a MPlayer plugin (no thanks). it isn't even clear what video link one should use. Clicking on the apparent video image with a play arrow results in numerous stalls on my iMac with a high-speed hard-wired cable connection.

Not a good test of anything and a site that I don't trust at all.

I have no trouble streaming more innocuous youTube videos on my iPhone 5 with iOS 6.0.2
