I agree it was a poor choice of test material and I was not a out to touch it with my Mac. But nevertheless it did show differences in wifi speed between my iPhone 4 and 5.

OK, but from my experience the responsiveness of that site is highly variable and not a good test. You should try a more reliable site to get better results.

Be aware that a video site is aware of the nature of your client be it iPhone, iPad, iMac, PC, etc. and may actually supply a completely different video, possibly from a entirely different server, depending on the nature of the client (screen resolution, screen size, etc.).

The site safe guys as I have been using this site for over 6 months now... It's a site for soap operas on Spanish that's all... Just tried it here and work and still does not playback smoothly and will stop... However I just tried it on a co workers iPhone 4S and she has 6.0.1 software and her phone plays the video fine.... I myself have iOS 6.0.2 and it will not play back for me and will only play back while in 4LTE on Verizon's network...

Was experiencing problems with very short wifi range and no 3g connectivity. Replaced the iPhone and the replacement was about the same but the 3g problem was resolved. Updated to 6.0.2 and the WiFi  has increased in range but it drops connection all the time. I can get a temporary fix by forgetting the network and reconnecting, but it will drop shortly after.

With all this time passed I think it must be a common hardware failure. I am going to look at getting another replacement and hope it doesn't have the same problem. I have devices by Samsung, Sony, Asus, Microsoft and Toshiba and none of these devices have this problem!

Thanks for taking the time to test, this mark_mark896, Just for the sake of completeness, would it be possible for you to upload a large file to Dropbox, say around 20MB, from your PC (maybe an installer file or something), then try to download that to an iPhone 5? Another test to an iPhone 4 would be even better. If you don't see the same problem as I see on all our iPhone 5s, I guess we could be looking at some sort of IP stack problem that rears its head when maybe latency is high (I'm in Australia, although Dropbox probably uses something like Amazon to co-locate its data, but not sure about this). Cheers.

Just tried another co workers brand new iPhone 5 running iOS 6.0.1 on the same wifi network here at work and his phone will not play the video in that link as well..... Just does not make sense to me that a 200.00 4 th generation iPod will play it fine and a iPhone 4S will as well with no issue, but my iPhone 5 struggles....

In diagnostics i5 has several memory swap errors, app crashes and wifi connection manager faults. I did what I mentioned in other posts, went to AT&T store and traded the i5 in for a 4s. I actually like the apple OS and feel the i5 just wasn't field tested enough and/or 6.0.2 wasn't well planned. The i5 might have a crisper screen and slight speed advantage but the 4s put me back into apps that load without freezing, double the battery life, and faster (+10mbps) wifi, and since LTE is so scarce anyway, 4G will do. It worked out dollar wise and no more stress so I'm over the i5 bugs. By the end of year the i5 should be stable so I'll try again next gen iPhone

Forget about that video. I couldn't reliably play it without pauses on an iMac hardwired to an ultra-fast cable connection. Either the server ***** or has a terrible connection to the Internet. Results in using that site vary all over the place.

Take the cover you have off your IPhone. My mum got her phone and the wifi wouldn't work and she swapped the phone 3 times only to have a wifi problem and when she ha the 3rd phone we had wifi then she put we cover on and there was no wifi and we realised it was the cover making us hae no wifi.

I had the problem with my iphone5 too... wifi worked only within a distance of 5m to the access point (The phone was connected, but no dataflow, I had to turn wifi manually off to get some data over 3G). Resetting network settings, factory reset, nothing helped, the problem was consistent and happened with 3 routers.

Yesterday I made an appointment at the Genius Bar in the Apple store and got it swapped.

The new one works like it should. The new one was delivered with ios6.0.2, I restored my old settings and I have absolutely not problem.

The mac of the Phone with the problem started with 00:88:65, the new one with F4:F1:5A.

I had WiFi issues both with the original iPhone 5 and the replacement I received from Apple. I tried changing several encryption settings and using other WiFi channels, with the same results.

After some research, I found some forum threads detailing one solution. Apparently, the new router the Spanish major carrier Movistar is now installing (Home Station Amper ASL-26555) has issues with the iPhone 5. My iPad connection never failed, though.

In this case, the default value of the parameter "signal-interval" (found under Advanced>Wireless Setup>WLAN Performance) makes the iPhone's WiFi drop. By default it is set to 100 msec. By setting it to 10, the issues disappear. I can now stream audio and video without interruption.

I hope this can be of help to some users and also help Apple technicians to solve the issue in future iOS releases.

I have an Iphone 5 and TP link ADSL wireless router. All my Idevices run fine on the wifi except for my Iphone 5. Strangely, my wife's Iphone 5  has no problems with its wifi connection.

In order to get any decent download rate, I would have to sit next to the router, and only then achieve a smooth Youtube video download. However streaming from anywhere outside the room led to a very slow connection, my phone often switching over to LTE.

I went to the apple store and they did a "firm ware" reset. This did not help.

I went back again and they gave me a new phone. This one works brilliantly. No problems. Good connection throughout the house, and I can stream Youtube clips seamlessly in any room.

The guy at the store said I was only the only person he had with this problem and that it was unusual.

I dont believe him. I have looked at alot of posts and there must be something inherently wrong with the wifi on these phones. I think I am just lucky to have resolved my problems with a new phone. Whilst Apple dont seem to be acknowledging this problem, at least they are replacing handsets to deal with it. Try getting that with your Android!

I have been having the same problem and my co-worker suggested I see how it worked without my case, which currently is a skinit type simple case.  Well to my surprise the wifi signal is much stronger without the case.  I then contacted Apple technical support to see if they could recommend any sort of case that would allow the signal to penetrate to the phone.  All she would say is she understood my frustration but was unable to suggest any sort of case.  She stated there are a bunch of cases in the store website that I could look at. . .well, that's wonderful, but if I don't know what kind of case will or won't allow the signal, how am I suppose to purchase the right one??  I'm not made of money that I could buy case after case after case just to see which one would work.  I'm very frustrated and disappointed with the iPhone 5.  I spent a lot of money on, what I believed should have been a decent product.  I think my next phone I will probably ditch the Apple and look into a Samsung Galaxy S3 or Motorola Raz Max. . . .

    Disappointed Beyond Belief.

My first iPhone5 had issues with the case on. My replacement has no issues. My personal belief is that your phone has an issue with the arial. You already have weak wifi, the case just makes it worse. Get a iphone5 that works perfectly and choose any case you like!
