    To those who are still watching - I've been on this thread since day 1. Nothing has worked for me but I noticed something odd again that I want to reiterate to some people who have not read all the threads. Here is how you can tell there is a problem with IOS and/or the battery (make sure you're not on wifi):

    When you unplug your phone from the charger and you notice it's draining quickly (for me, the first 2-4 minutes of usage brought it down to 98%) here is what you do - go into settings and put the phone into airplane mode. Give it about 15 seconds before turning it back on. (At this time, go ahead and close out all of your background apps during this process). Once it's turned back on, shut the phone completely off and wait about 10 seconds before turning it back on. When it comes back you'll notice the phone battery is now at 100%, despite the fact that it was 98% when you turned it off. Sometimes I can use my phone for another 5-10 minutes before it begins to drop again.

    Go figure. I hope Apple is reading these threads but I cannot be sure.  Also - for all those who are complaining that Apple has not come out and made this public - seriously? Do you really think a company so haughty as Apple - the same company that pointed the finger at AT&T when it was Apple's fault many times, is really going to make a PR announcement about how crappy their device is?  No. Instead, do what I'll be doing - this is my first and likely last phone by Apple that I will be carrying with me. My wallet speaks louder than words. As much as I dislike saying this, I won't be returning to an iPhone if this fix is not resolved in the 6.1 update coming soon. I'm tired of carrying my ridiculously short charger cable with me all day long.

    Have you tried restarting the phone?

    LTE kills batteries no matter what phone you have. That is the biggest reason why apple waited so long to implement LTE because of the battery drain they knew was coming with it. Turn off LTE and use just 3G and see how you do.

    I just got an Iphone 5 and the battery disappears within hours even if I am not using the phone at all. It can drop 10 % in just 15 minutes without using it. Do I need to take it back?

    When you say restarting the phone, do you mean to go back to all of the factory defaults or is there something else I should be doing?

    So I made a post a while back, and have been reading all the new posts (quite a lot!!), and I can honestly say, the battery drain is a little all over the place.

    I did a while ago start the procedure of ringing Apple, and at the the time they suggested I do a complete reset, try with no apps, don't restore rah rah rah.....

    Anyway, I had already done the DFU reset, settings reset didn't seem to make a difference.

    Here is a screen shot back then.

    IMG_0552.PNG

    I would get this usage on my iPhone 4, and still have at least 50%.

    Now today.....

    I haven't really bothered checking stats, and usage, because it drives you insane right?

    Here is the stats today...not sure why I checked.... Jan 14th 20113.jpg

    So there is about an hour difference on the two, but 45% difference..??

    What's happened?

    I don't know.

    Usage for today - a few phone calls, a few msgs, one email address set to fetch hourly, music playing for about 30 mins, and GPS whilst running listening to that music...(to track time and distance)

    I have LTE off, I only get it near work if the wind is blowing my way (right on the edge the zone), so I dont bother, and my reception on 3G varies from 1 to 5 bars, not enough to hang your hat on.

    So, in this instance, today has been a good day for the battery, and I have no idea why, isn't that great!

    It would be interesting to see if anyone has experienced any changes like this?

    I know most people on here seem to notice poor batteries and go exchange their phones.

    Cheers and keep posting solutions you find.

    Please remember there is a difference between LTE battery drainage and use of the iphone and the battery drain.  While I have noticed that the iPhone battery does drain during heavy use pretty quickly and that should be corrected by apple, you can live with that.   The real issue are the times when you do not use the phone at all and it is dead in 3-4 hours and it feels super hot and you are worried that it will fry the circuits inside.  Mine actually was against my keys once and started burning my leg.  I have posted previously how i was able to get rid of it but there is obviously still issues for some.

    @aaronwhatup

    I have honestly never paid this close attention to that point, but now thinking about it, it does sound familiar.

    I had heavy drain with 6.0.1 and it seemed to get better with 6.0.2

    I've got an alarm going off at 6:30 every day which is pretty much the time I take it off the charger. Some days, after 12 hours I might have around 15 to 20% battery left. Some days, like yesterday, with similar usage, I am about to ran out (1% or so).

    I have unplugged my phone at 7 AM and at 11 am at 73% which means about 7% battery usage per hour. Did not take any call, no music, bluetooth and wifi off, location services on. 1h 30m usage and 4hs standby.

    I do not think there's a misreport of percentage. With 6.0.1 I did try reset all data (network only) and later reset to factory defaults. It seemed a bit better but sounds like it goes all the way back again after a few days/weeks.

    I would try again but am skeptic that it will do any (long-term) good.

    Have read that ios 6.1 has some improvements in that sense and am hopeful that it will do !!

    On a side note: I have had the very same situation with my iphone 4 when it first came out. Took a few updates to get a decent batt life.

    Second side note: A friend got his iphone5 at the same time of mine, however he has set up as a new phone - his battery performs at least 100% better. Right now he has 1 hour usage and 3 hs standby with 95% batt left !!!

    It is funny you should post this.  After three days of nearly a complete battery drain while I was sleeping, I have had three optimal days.  I haven't charged it since Sunday evening and have used it for texting, calling, listening to my tunes at the gym and while walking the dogs and emailing.  I am at 61% since Sunday.  I just don't understand this.  It seems like it should be more consistent and I am nervously awaiting the next time it will completely drain with no activity.

    how do u know if it was setup as a new phone?? and if u bought it shouldnt it already be setup as a new phone if its your first iphone

    anohter note ive not really had the crazy issues that everyonelse has. knock on wood. last nite i fell asleep with my sirius on my phone(usually turns off after 90 min but for some reason didnt). it was on for 8hrs and change and i still had 37 percent of the battery left.

    @abonfietti & @3greythounds

    This may be stupid or a great idea, who knows?

    I'm not sure whether it could be as simple as the code they use to measure the battery.

    I literally have done nothing this morning, 41 minutes use and 5 hrs stanby 86%??

    I don't know if any of you have used a app called Boost Magic,  I bought when I got my iPhone 4 when it was released.

    It currently shows my battery level as 92%....not much better, but a discrepency in the least.

    I know this doesn't explain everything, but unless you run the phone until it turns off (which if it's measuring the battery wrong, then it may give a false result, therefore shutting down the phone) then and only then do you have a full picture of how long the battery lasts.

    I will wait until I get home tonight and post the result of today.

    Cheers

    @canemh

    If it's your first iPhone, then you sent up as a new phone.

    If you buy another one, you can back up and restore your Apps and settings to your new phone like they were on your old phone, as people who had a 4/4S have done with their 5.

    Cheers

    I don't think any idea is stupid, but the fact that we have to sit here and discuss all of these work arounds is the stupid part, right?  I had another idea that could be stupid, but worth throwing out there.  The three days I was getting significant battery drain was when I was out of town and using a non-Apple branded charger that I got for a good price from Amazon.  All other times, I am using the Apple branded charger and don't seem to have problems.  Now, logic tells me that a full charge is a full charge, regardless of which charging device you are using, but since none of this is logical, could there be a difference in the chargers and how they impact battery life?
