Hi everyone,  I wasn't going to comment but my barely 4 yr old MBP had Logic Board failure.  There were other issues that I could live with but, like a previous poster, I purchased Apple because I was told it would last, longer than the avg PC.  I have PC's from the turn of the century that still work, slowly but work.  For the Logicboard to fail with no affordable recourse is unfortunately, not acceptable.  I can afford a new MBP but don't want the frustration (PC's are affordably frustrating).  I ended up buying a used 15" Lenovo for $180, 2.53 Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4G Ram, Win 7.  It works fine for now and is speedy.  I really like Mac's and would happily continue to purchase if I knew it was made with quality.  I watched a recent interview with the CEO and it was convincing what he was saying, paraphrased - Always make the best.  I beleive in that too but it doesn't seem to be happening these days with Apple laptops. For now, I have a very expensive, shiny doorstop.   Maybe things will change.

Wow, im just seeing all this now. I took my macbook pro in the beginning of September because after labor day weekend i came home to a messed up a usb drive and webcam. The genius bar told me it was the logic board that was corropted, when i asked if it was my fault he told me no that it was a manufactior issues, HOWEVER he failed to mention the 4 year replacment issue( if thats even true) and then proceeded to tell me it would be about 400$ dollars to fix. My macbookpro was bought in August 2010... such a shame didnt even last for 3 years

How do you forward this link to Tim Cook?  I believe he just recentlyhad a TV interview where he said he would fight for his customers. It sure doesn't look like he cares much about the customers who spent top dollar for a MacBook Pro...quite to the contrary!

Had Apple replace the logic board in my early 2008 MBP 15" end of Nov 2012. Yesterday I get a flashing screen and all these weird graphical distortions and system freeze. Had to shut down using power button. Tried rebooting and all I get is same graphical distortions and system freeze. Even tried booting from the install dvd. Same thing. Seems that this logic board didn't even last 2 months.

I think the logic board had a 90 day warranty so am hoping Apple will replace free of charge.

Peameal bacon sandwiches on me for life if they do it for free.  No, the advantage is that the US stores offer the $310 flat fee, "repair whatever's needed" option.  The Canadian stores don't, or at least didn't a few months ago when I faced the same issue.

It's in a big mall over there.  Drop it off.  Have lunch.  Pick up the flu.  Return in a week and repeat.

Lowest Canadian repair price was well over $1000.  (Though someone earlier in this thread says he had it done for $400 or so, I think it was, maybe in Montreal?  I'll take Buffalo.)

Sweet! I'll work getting the job for free just to get the peameal... I hadnt heard of the $310 flat fee so thanks for the info. I'll investigate this. and let you know what happens.

My sound recently stopped working on my MBP that I bought back in 2010. I took it to the apple store and they told me that it was my Logic board. I can live with out sound but does that sound right? I asked them how much it would cost to repair and they told me  atleast $500. Has anyone else had the same problem?

It seems that several people have had some luck resolving logic board faults with Apple. Read the last few posts for the latest info.

If you need solid info on logic board issues, start with this:

    http://logicboardmac.blogspot.com

I'm interested in knowing more about your machine. Did you have any warning before the problem happened? How does your system run, temperature-wise.

Good luck - I look forward to your response.

When they said it was the Logic Board, did they actually meant it was just the sound part (the equivalent of a sound card, embedded into the LB)?

This would make a huge difference, because if it's “just” the sound circuitry, you'll just have no sound, but if it's the LB, well, we may just hope the problem won't extend.

Do you have no sound from both the speakers and the line out plug? Do you have sound input working? Have you sound output sometimes or not at all? Does System Preferences' sounds pane recognise your sound device (with no option grayed out)? Finally, does System Profiler report a valid sound device?

Here an update on my logic board failure:

I called customer service and spoke to a very nice person who got me in touch with another nice person in customer relations.  Apple stood behind the product and though it was out of warrantee they shipped it out to Tenn.  where the logic board was replaced.  My faith in the company is restored.  That isn't to say I'm completey free of fear that this machine won't fail again.  In view of the many postings I'm wondering if they don't have some serious manufacturing issues coming out of the china factory.  The high cost of this machine should give me years of good service, the logic board failed at a year and a half.  Lets see how long this one last before I can offer an informed oppinion.  That Samsung Chrono machine looks pretty good at substantially less $.  I do love this OS and hope it continues to function.  I'll be streaming less on this machine, it still gets quite hot and I suspect that would shorten it's lifespan.

    Congrats Bear!

Remember that the logicboard has a 90day warranty on it.

My replacement logicboard failed after less than 2 months and is on the way back for another logicboard.
