I'd like to know how to delete photos from my iPhone 5.  These are photos that were synced from my iMac, not taken with the iPhone.  There doesn't appear to be any Trash or visible way to do this.

The same way you put it on your phone, unsync them using itunes.

Just in case you're confused about what you see inside your Photo app ...

You have sync'd a set of pictures from your Mac to your iPhone.  These appear as an Album within the Photo app on your iPhone.

There is also the "Photos" category within the Photo app, and that is a summary of all your sync'd albums (if you had more than one) plus what is in your Camera Roll.  The Photos category lets you look at all pictures that are loaded onto your iPhone.

So pictures you sync from your Mac will appear in at least two places -- the album you sync'd and the overall summary in "Photos", but these are not duplicates of the same pictures, just different ways to access the same picture.

Actually, all photos synced to an iPhone are stored in the "Photos Library". The various albums/folders merely contain pointers to the "actual" photos, which are in the "Photos Library". This is the same way iPhoto stores photos on a Mac.

You did, however, correctly point out, that they are not duplicates.

I'm confused too... so having them view in 2 places doesn't take up more storage? I was trying to delete as well until I found this thread.

I have the same problem, but I have a windows 8.1 computer, but the issue is with the photos app in the iphone 5, I have quite a few duplicate photos there in different folders, but they're not duplicated in the computers folder from which it syncs, so the problem is with the iphone and theirs no way that i know of to delete the duplicates in the photos folder in iphone. I also have the iphotos app as well on my iphone but i'm not including that in this thread. Another issue is the way iphone and itunes handles videos to sync , but i'll make a new discussion on that.
