My old iphone 4  was approved by AT&T to be unlocked. After restoring the phone in iTunes, I did not receive a message that says the phone was unlocked. How do I know if it was unlocked? And is it normal for my phone number to still show up in the  "my phone number" part of settings?

Contact AT&T.  The carrier is the only one that can unlock your iPhone (and verify it happened).

You'll need to buy a new sim card from Verizon for your phone and you can put it in yourself.

You can't use a GSM iPhone 4 with Verizon, officially unlocked or not. Verizon is CDMA. If you want to go with Verizon, you need to purchase a new phone, from Verizon.

Verizon doesn't use sim cards(except in phones designed for International travel, like the iPhone 5). Verizon is CDMA...your iPhone 4 won't work on Verizon's network.

Mark, in my supposed unlocked 4s I installed a TMobile sim and display said it needed to be activated. Can I assume my iPhone is unlocked?

    Thanks. edmund

I had to backup and then erase my Sprint iPhone 4S to get the GSM slot unlocked.

To note, VZ does not have SIM cards on their network, CDMA uses a MEID code embedded in the phone.

But yes, t-mobile and Wal-Mart have SIM cards you can test.

that sounds promising - i bought a $10 prepaid sim card from T-Mobile so i never had to go through an activation process with them
