    You are welcome.

Did you deliberately download XCode/Developers Tools ?

or was it included in Mountain Lion ?

I have so many bits left on my computer I can't tell right aways which version I have.

Technically my User account have been updated from pre-Leopard to Leopard to Lion on this computer

I'm having the same problem. I have a 2nd level tech support call from Apple this morning to address this issue. Spent 45 minutes yesterday with Apple and they could not solve it then. I have THREE iMessage accounts, each labelled inactive. Have no idea how but I can't log into any of them.

On a related topic, does anyone know if there's a way to access Microsoft Messenger from Messages? I'd like to add that account too, but don't know the settings.

    Thanks!

    Ralph,

I do iOS dev so I had Xcode already installed.

Update: I thought i had messages stablized, but it in the afternoon I realized I was not able to send messages.

I had to go in and delete all the com.apple.ichat preference files and then I restarted the computer.

On launching Messages the next time, it was like it had never been started before. It was like a "Welcome to Messages" or "Welcome to iMessage" type screen or something I had never seen before. I entered my Apple ID and it went through, no problem. I then had to set up my AIM account also.

Seems to be working this time OK. Only one iMessage account.

    I'll keep you guys updated.

    Hi,

    You need AllForces

    On the multiple accounts

Open the Finder as the "Front" app

    Use the Go Menu

    Hold down the ALT key

    Select the Library

    Open Preferences

    Find com.apple.imservice.imessage.plist

Drag to Trash and restart Messages

I've tried following all the advice to clear up this problem (delete plist files, keys, etc.) but I still have the same problem.

    screen1.jpg

    screen2.jpg

My Apple ID works fine in all the other Apple apps (Facetime, App Store, iTunes, Apple forums, etc.) And you can see I have the dual Apple ID accounts now as well (I never used the beta program. Though I did have iChat working at some point.)

Looking at these error messages again I wonder if this program is trying to send verification to the defunct email address? I wouldn't think it would be doing it's own verification but I'm reaching for any kind of straw to get this fixed.

    Hi,

I have tried two @mac.com names (one of which does not have an email linked to it) and both were not accepted as IDs in the iMessages side of Messages.

At present I have not been able to dig further into this.

I had the same issue of having two imessage accounts (one of them can work only) to the left side.

I solved it by deleting all "imessage" contains files under the Library> Preferences :

Open the Finder as the "Front" app

    Use the Go Menu

    Hold down the ALT key

    Select the Library

    Open Preferences

Search inside (Preferences only) for "imessage"

Delete all files that you will see (only inside the Preferences) that contains imessage in the file name.

Empty your trash and restart your computer.

    Open the Messages and check.

    Good luck

after dealing with apple for 2 hours on this, turns out i needed to build a new key chain. had to boot into recovery mode (hold option when starting the computer and choosing the recovery option) then going to utilites on the top menu when it loaded up, and opening terminal and typing in resetpassword.

selecting the MacintoshHD from the window that boots up, select the user and entering a new password (different from the old one)

restarting the computer, once loggin in with the new password, the keychain askes what to do, and i hit create new keychain (or something along those lines) and then imessages worked!

i then went into the system pref's and changed my password back and all seems to be working now

    Good Luck!

I was getting a server error with my appleID. My brother is a computer guy and he solved the problem pretty quickly. In the terminal he found that my copy of adobe creative suite was using the same server to send info about the products trial/license. He got rid of it and imessage and facetime work perfectly. I can post details if anyone thinks they may be in the same boat...

    HI,

Once you get to OS X 10.8.2 which includes the Messages update to version 7.0.1 that becomes a common message back from the server.

I would check if the Mac's Serial Number is present.

About the Mac (in the apple icon menu) and click on the OS version line twice.

This thread is so old that the pics refer to version 7.0 and do not match the current iMessages account pane.

    Hi,

Messages keeps asking me for my password every time I receive a message on my phone, that's all it does, the message itself doesn't come up on the mac, but just asks for a password. I tried deleting keychains numerous times, sometimes it works for a few minutes, then it's dead again.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers
