    i was told by 2 different people at 2 different apple stores that all of the cases that apple sells have been tested to make sure they don't have any negative effects on the phone, including wifi...

    I was seeing that happen also, now that I'm back on a 4s I am also seeing small details in apps the i5 was not displaying, like labels on the color chart in NOAA-radar, additional details in my stock apps, safari form response etc. I don't regret going back to a 4s at all, everything works. I can't believe people are actually tweaking their routers for wifi, what happens when on the road at hotspots? And how many trips to apple for a (possible) replacement? Who has the time for all that? I'll sit tight with the 4s until end of year....

    I am having a major iPhone 5 wifi issue! I was on ios 6.01 and occasionally my wifi would work but then it went out completely-I could not connect to my home network! I upgraded to ios 6.02 as Apple said doing so would fix wifi issues and it still doesn't work! I spoke to Apple Customer support and they said that if this continues no matter what I try the solution is a new phone-I have warranty-but what is the point in a new phone if that doesn't work? Enough is enough apple! Fix your wifi issues. There is something wrong with the iPhone 5 hardware and it needs to be fixed.

    iPhone 5, have had it for a week.  My wifi signal looked fine, but data speed would cut to zero randomly.  Using 'Reset Network Settings' in General Settings fixed the issue for me, at least so far.

    What I have noticed during my last days, is following - and maybe you can check it, too:

     

    In WiFi settings the live signal strength will be displayed as you know or can see below. In live preview the appropriate WiFi network seems to be recept with 3 bars. But the iPhone 5 itself is connected with weak 1 bar only. And that is exactly how that network behaves then - connection is lost and weak data transfer speeds.

     

    I don't know why that is happening (btw: I updated to 6.0.2 straight away when that "fix" came out), but it seems to be causal determined somehow.

    I have an IPhone 5 and ADSL wi-fi router. And wi-fi on my IPhone works if I stay near with router. Before I had IPhone 3GS and no problems. Apple promised that new IOS 6.0.2 decide problems with wi-fi but there is no so.

    Something else I noticed:

     

    Being connected to the same network, "iPhone Generations" demonstrate pretty impressively that the 5 has definitley a problem.

    So I went yesterday to the Apple Store nearby Stuttgart, Germany and instead of a new device, the technician simply deleted my personal data and re-branded the OS with a version from the technician's Macbook (might be different from what people are able to download through iTunes at home?!). He claimed to re-install 6.0.2 as in "some cases" this update could have destroyed (he said confused) some relevant data of the OS. I asked how an update that was supposed to fix WiFi trouble in the first place could destroy the file system or confuse some system files of an iPhone 5. He replied: Sorry, but this can happen.

     

    When I came home, I have set up my old phone from my backup.

     

    Since yesterday I didn't have any WiFi problem (apart from a small issue in the coffee place around the corner, but that is because of them ). For a short while I had no data connection while being hooked up to 3G, but this was only 5 mins.

     

    Problem solved? I let you know during the next days of testing and monitoring.

    How do I re-install 6.0.2? If I simply do a factory reset, will fully erase and re-install the OS, or will it only erase my data and set settings to their initial (factory) state?

    The Apple guy asked me if I have reset the phone. You can do it in Settings-General-Reset.

     

    Additionally, the Apple technician was able to re-install the OS. For that, you have to walk up to a Genius Bar.

     

    Deleting your data and bringing the phone back to factory settings always means to end up at the lastest OS versions. It will not go back to the version that your phone had when it was shipped.

    i've had the same problem.. bad signal and very slow download. after a lot of research and frustrations, i've found out it was Onavo Inc. that was blocking my wifi. even when it was not connected, it would still block my signal. uninstall it and now it works perfect. i'm very happy with the phone now.. hope it helps

    Hi..

    I've the same problem also in connecting to wifi..

    I tried to change the wifi security to WEP instead of the WPA/WPA2 but also the same problem.

    It works perfectly when I'm beside the router, but it turns to 3G once I go out of the router range ( other room for example )..

    I don't know if it's related to a firmware update or something ?!

    Hey guys!!!!! I was on here a couple of times complaining about how I couldn't get my home wifi to work with my iPhone.

     

    Well after nearly 2 months of purchasing my iPhone, I have finally found a solution!! I basically had the wrong DNS settings for my wifi settings and I changed it to the right one which I found out from typing in msconfig in command prompt!! My wifi has been working for 8 hours so far at high speed!! Happy days:)

     

    Just thought I would share this with ye, ye never know this might be the solution for yours too:)

    I just got my iphone 5 for couple of days and had the same problem as everyone else. But I did something radical after reading all your posts. As my router is having 2.4hz/5hz (dual band) I decided to remove the 5hz by renaming it and hiding the SSID so I'm only seeing my 2.4hz band. (Both bands are having the same SSID by default on my router) Once that's done the connection has not been dropping and remains stable and the signal strength is better as well) The reason I did this was because the signal/performance deteriorates whenever I move further away and I remember reading about 5hz band being unable to penetrate walls and losing strength over distance. It seems the phone keeps trying to re-establish the connection with the 5hz band for some unknown reason. Worth a try and pls let us know if it works for those who have dual band routers using this fix. All the best!

    Hardware.  I returned mine to the Apple Store, was told it was a faulty wifi card, since it wouldn't connect to their signal and the phone was replaced immediately, without question.  Has worked perfectly ever since.

    I don't know why some of the posters here are resisting swapping hardware.  Changing DNS and proxy settings may help work around a software bug, but they won't fix a faulty antenna.  If you've tried all the software fixes, resets, and so on, and you're still not getting usable WiFi, it is likely that you have a hardware problem.   There are multiple problems going on, to be sure, but some of them are definitely hardware.  Your phone may have a hardware problem, or it may have a software problem or it may have both.  No matter which problem it has, getting a new phone with working hardware can only help.  So why the resistance?  If Apple (or your carrier) will swap out the hardware, then back up the phone and swap it out.  If you don't have WiFi *now*, you have nothing to lose by swapping hardware, and it could very well solve the problem.
