I have downloaded a few apps only to decide they're rubbish and want to delete them. This problem occurs on both my iPad3 as well as my iPhone 4S.

When I tap and hold the app to get it to jiggle, I then tap the 'x' to delete and iOS locks up. It won't delete the app, and I cannot go hold the home button to stop the process. The only way I can resume using my iPhone or iPad is to reset holding the home and sleep buttons.

I had this problem when trying to download Keynote, Pages, and Numbers the other day, and the only way I could delete these 3 apps to get them re-installed was to plug the devices into my MacBook and delete apps on iTunes and sync them.

It seems since 6.01 iOS update I've had issues with some apps not loading and not being able to delete apps.

Anyone else had issues too?

iPhone 4S, iOS 6.0.1

I don't have that issues.  But another way to delete apps from your phone is to got to

Settings - general  - usage - you'll see a list of all your apps - click on it - you'll see delete app

First try Restore from backup using iTunes.

If no joy, you have to bite the bullet, Restore as new without the backup.

Appreciate the suggestion...alas, it seems to be the standard response for issues relating to iOS, "just restore"....I could reach that conclusion myself! ...

Written in the iPhone manual and well, this is the basic trouble-shooting steps.

You should have done that yourself before you come here for help.

    Restart,

    Reset,

Restore from backup using iTunes or iCloud,

    Restore as new.

Well, your problem is not common. I also have iPhone 4S and IOS 6.0.1 wth 320 apps on the iPhone. I could not duplicate what is happening to you. I assumed you know those bundled apps that came with the IOS cannot be deleted.

Did you checked your Settings > General > Restrictions: should be off in most cases > Deleting Apps?

The next option is the bin. I'm done with Apple.

Give it to charity would be good move.
