Except that I made it bigger by pulling the margin to the right and now I can't get it back to the narrower size. I know that I can change the configuration to the opposite side, but that does not correct the width.
I don't see anything in preferences that would cause this "one way" direction! I am tempted to make it as big as possible and then see if the "arrow" changes direction...but will wait till I see if anyone else has this issue.
Thank you for the information.

Does it keep the larger size, even after quitting and relaunching Aperture?
Then your Aperture Preferences file may be corrupted.
I'd suggest to remove the Preferences file
from your User Library to the Desktop.
- Quit Aperture and log off and on again before removing this file.
- Then try, if now your Inspector panel has the correct size, when you relaunch Aperture.
If it does not fix the problem put the preferences back. For after removing the preferences, you will have toreset all settings from the "Preferences" panel.
Your user ibrary is hidden in MaxOS X 10.7 or later.
To unhide it, use the Finder's "Go" menu.
- Click somewhere on your empty Desktop to bring the Finder forward, then click "Go" in the Finder's main menu bar.
- Then hold down the options key ⌥ until "library" appears in the drop down menu. Click "Library" to open.
Unfortunately, you can't.
You may wish to experiement with full screen mode, which when you view the inspector you can shrink it (vertically at least), and it's undocked so you get the full screen for your photo.
A cool tip when using the inspector in full screen mode: If you hold shift while making adjustments, the whole panel goes invisible except for the slider you're moving.
