The 3G maxes out at iOS 4.2.1. iBooks requires iOS 5.0 or higher. You can't run it on that phone. You're going to find that's the case with many, if not most of the apps in the app store.
The iPhone 3G was discontinued over 2 1/2 years ago. It's over 4 1/2 years old now.
If you did not save old versions of the apps you want to run on it, you're going to have a hard time finding anything that will run on the iPhone 3G.

I did not even think to save the old apps.
I forgot the firs three rules of computing
.......still; I like my smart phone. Even if it is a geriatric patient on minimal life support.
