RCLRay, if you read the whole post you would have found out that most of the people tried every solution suggested here, but still the problem persisted.

While cleaning the connector could have been a solution for you and other few, most of the people still have this problem.

There is no much to hate here, but we can only take notice of Apple's carelessness towards the customers.

After thousands of people have experienced this issue Apples still has failed to acknowledge the issue with their product, either hardware or software.

Everything in the name of "It just works"

After reading and trying everything on this thread, I went into the Apple store yesterday with my iPhone 3GS. Battery was about to die, nothing charged it. No water damage, just that horrible message.

Associate said it very rarely happens, but the phone was shot. Popped out my SIM card and I left. When I got home on a whim I plugged the phone-without the SIM card- into my computer. It began charging! So I used my tool-paper clip- to put the sim back in....and the phone works!

So if all else fails, back up the phone, and try removing then replacing the SIM card. And don't believe the associates. It happens more often then they'll say!

I recently experienced this error. My phone would still charge, but the error message would interfere with the running  of other applications like my clock/alarm clock app. In my case the error seems to be related to whether or not WiFi is on. If I turn off, WiFi, I do not get the error message.

I was able to resolve my issue by replacing the cable that connects to the radio (rcd-510).  The other end of the cable is USB 2.0 type A female.  Now my iPhone 3GS charges as well as allows the radio to access and control the music on my phone :)

Hi I have googled this endelssy and found many "fixes". This is definatley an apple software glitch as too many users report this fault on DIFFERENT devices ie ipod, phone and pad accross differnt ios too??!!

I recently received this on an ipad 1. i swapped my aftermarket charger for original apple one and it started charging- this is with a non standard 3m charging cable! so its not the lead! However, this morning I received the message again??? this time i powered down pluggged in charger and then switched on -charging fine!! ***??

also I have read that installing battery doctor can help I will try that next time....

Had the same problem/message with one of my Ipads.  None of the 6 cords/plugs that came with my various Apple products worked charging this Ipad.  I tried everything listed in this discussion and almost gave up, and then tried a non-Apple charger/plug "knock off" from another company and it's charging my Ipad normally with no message...go figure, so charging is not supported for their own cords/plugs, but other non-Apple charging hardware works...strange, but happy I've sorted it out.  So if you have any non-Apple charging adapters, try them!

Hello there, it isnt your cord, usb port, dirty dock your battery or anything else!!! I was one of the original people who started this thread Over A Year Ago!! It has had 274968 views to date and over 291 replies. It is a bug that is in the software, starting with IOS 5.0.1. It continues with each update and affects ALL apple products. I personally feel apple developers know anout this issue and (a) just dont know how to fix ( B) are making big dollars in sells of phone 's cables ( c) just dont give a plugged nickle because people are STILL buying thier products!!! So the only remedy for this is Stop Buying Apple Products until someone somewhere addresses this and comes up with a permant solution. I took my own advice months ago I suggest you do the same.

The people who fixed it by changing their cord might disagree with you. Along with the ones who fixed it by cleaning their connector. And the hundreds of millions of people who don't have the problem, and are using the same version of software that you claim causes the problem.

Thanks Lawrence...as helpful and eloquent as always! It looks like apple uses your logic, and doesn't care or acknowledge the 1% or .5 %  of people having issues. Good thing Firestone, Ford and Honda don't follow suit!

Since when did it become ok to get personal over people comments and opinions?? This thread is about Apple screwing over it's customers yet again. It's been documented on many occasions that the "fixes" work only for some people meaning they are not having the exact same issue as others. Get over it people, it happens. I know from experience none of the aforementioned "fixes" work for me. Since my iPhone4 was upgraded to latest iOS it will only charge using apple cables either thru my computer, car charger or wall charger. I've had to go out and purchase all new cables - not cheap!! However, my 2 iPods and my old 3G phone, my partners iPhone4 and iPad ALL still charge using my cheap-o chargers and none of them have been upgraded to be iOS. I took my phone to apple store and had it checked for corrosion on the pins etc and all is well. So, if its not the connector on the phone, its not the cheap-o cables as ghey work on every other device, what could it be?? Seems strange.... No?

No lawrence your not supposed to be impressed as i wouldnt put out the effort. I was merely commenting that since I originally was one of the people who started this thread Apple has  done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING towards addressing or acknowledging the problem even existed. It's true people jave posted many solutions to the same issue and although as you say millons are sold there is bound to be dofferent things go wrong, however it always comes back to One Common Problem doesnt it? I know your a die hard apple fan whos sticking by them no matter what so bully for you. I loved my iphone but ive got enough common sense to lnow if a company refuses to listen to they people that buy thier products then they just dont give a **** , so why should i care about keeping them in business.
