You are trying to run Windows apps on OS X, and that's only possible with applications like CrossOver.

However, if you want to run Windows on your Mac, just open Boot Camp Assistant on your Mac (in Utilities folder) and follow the steps to install Windows. As you have Snow Leopard, you can install Windows XP Service Pack 2 or newer, Windows Vista or Windows 7. Note that you need a Windows DVD to install it.

If you need help to install Windows, print the file > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Boot_Camp_Install-Setup_10.6.pdf

Just use the Boot Camp Assistant found in Applications>Utilities folder. I believe (don't really know) that Snow Leopard will support XP. Have your Windows XP CD/DVD handy with the activation key and a blank CD for downlaoding the Windows drivers from Apple.

It's been a long time since I used Boot Camp - I run XP as a virtual machine using Parallels Desktop (which I prefer as everything just integrates so nicely with the Mac OS).

    Good luck,

I tried using my Windows 7 home  premium disc and I click install and it says it can't detect a disc?

Whats wrong with it? I leave the disc in for a bit, and when I don't click the install button on boot camp, my mac just ejects the disc anyway.

Is there a way to use windows without a disc?

I think that you need to upgrade OS X in order to run Win7... AFAIK, Snow Leopard doesn't support Win7. I might be wrong, though...

I think you should read the Boot Camp instructions, then backup your Mac before you do anything else.
