Q: Can I use an 85W MagSafe Power Adapter for my MacBook Pro (Mid 2009)

Our old Power Plug has damaged and does not work anymore. Can I use the above one?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities

If you have a 15 or 17-inch MacBook Pro, you can use the 85W power adapter, but if you have a 13-inch MacBook Pro, you have to use the 60W power adapter

mende1, greetings: One may use a 85w power adapter on a 13" MBP with out harm.. The 13" MBP will draw as much power as it needs and no more.

Intuitively it seems that it might be harmful, but that is not the case. Charge levels are controlled internally. Now it will be your turn to teach me something (which should not be too difficult)!
