My iPhone does not have more than 5 GB of data on it.

Yet I am constantly being told there is insufficient storage space available.

Before you say any of the below items, please know that they have been checked and are NOT the problem.

Numerous friends report the same problem.   Nothing helps:

1)  Delete all your text messages, they may have videos / images in them

2)  Delete unwanted / large apps

3)  Verify App data isnt huge

4)  Delete unnecessary images / videos

5)  Selectively back up which apps and data to reduce size of backup

6)  Delete and restore your backup in iCloud - doesnt work.

7)  Restore your phone - doesn't work.

Etc Etc Etc.   Nothing I have read on any web site fixes this problem.  Nothing.

The simple fact is - from what I am told - the iPhone backup system NEVER clears out old data fully.   This is a ridiculous way to manage the backup system, but from what I assume, there is a huge amount of residual junk on iCloud that is from other phones, other backups, etc.  And there is no way to fully delete it all.  Especially those of us who have had an iPhone since the very first one, none of my friends can back up their iPhones.   There's NEVER enough space available, even though the phone itself says there is less than 5GB of space.

How do we fix this problem?   I have googled across countless web sites.   Nothing helps.   Nothing fixes this.

Thank you.

You may need to purchase more storage to accommodate your needs.

On the devise - Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage
