I have iBooks version 3.0.2 on my iPad and my operating system is 6.0.1

The dictionary does not work. I can select a word and choose "define" from the menu of options, but is always just brings up a window which says "No definitions found."

Other users have solved this problem by turning off the iPad speech function under accessibility, but that didn't work for me.

Does the same thing happen if you type a word in Notes and then select it (with the English keyboard active) and choose define?

Have you tried resetting your device?

If I understand you correctly, you asked me to:

    1) Open the iPad app "Notes"

    2) type a word in a note

    3) select that word I just typed (while the English keyboard remains active)

When I followed the above steps, the menu option "Define" does not even come up. My options are just "Cut, Copy, Paste, Suggest..."

After doing the above I realized you probably meant for me to create a note within iBooks.  So, I did steps 1-3 in an iBook note and I got the same result.

I did mean for you to try the Notes app.  The dictionary is supposed to work on all Apple apps.  It sounds like you may have a dictionary present, but not the English one.  There are supposed to be dictionaries for English, Japanese, Chinese, French, German, Spanish.

Sorry, I don't know the fix.
