For the past several days, I have not been able to connect to my university's wifi network. When I click on the network to connect, it waits several seconds, then tells me it could not join the network, and that a connection timeout occurred. I know that the wifi works, as none of my friends, including those with the same computer as me, are having issues. I can only connect via ethernet cable. Can anybody help me? Thanks.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Nevermind, I have figured this out. It was a problem with my login for the network.

I am answering because it was not resolved if the answer was not written. I just ran into this issue when trying to login at the coffee shop. I googled the error on my iPhone and saw your post. This is how I resolved it, I am putting it in language that is meant so anyone can follow along if they run into this regardless of where they are.

click on the Apple icon at the top left screen then select "System Preferences..."

Then in the "Internet & Wireless" section you select "Network"

While this is open (or you can get the name prior) you click on the available networks to see the name of the network that you want to join. In this case, I am at a cofee shop called "PEETS".

Enter that in "Network Name" and please note that though the picture shows that I selected it, I actually had to type it in where you also enter the password. You may see the network, in that case click on it. Otherwise If you do not see that network as an option here, you then click on next to "Network Name" and from the dropdown, select "Join Other Network..." where you enter in the network name that you found above.

Type in the password and select WPA. You may want to copy and paste the password then scroll through the password types if that does not work. When the password entered and password type is correct, then the "Join" button becomes blue.

Then you open your browser (Firefox, Safari, etc). Attempt to open a page, you will be redirected to a "Terms of Use" type page if you are at a University or coffee shop. Then you should be able to get online.
