If the hard drive has crashed, that computer cannot be booted, right? So what is the point of connecting it to one that is working?
(If you can boot it you can use an ethernet cable to connect the two Mac - both have ethernet ports - and use Migration Assistant. You have to activate MA on both computers. It's in Applications / Utilities.)
If you cannot boot the crashed computer, you could remove the hard drive from it, put it in an external enclosure, connect it to the working mac, run Disk Utility or TechTool Pro or Disk Warrior to salvage something.
