A question which could have easily been answered by putting forth some effort and doing a search.  That same search would have revealed troubleshooting steps to get the issue resolved.

Try it now, it's called helping yourself.

Tried the troubleshooting steps no go. They do not stick. I don't pay a premium for this.

After the 3GS fiasco you would think they would QA this a bit more!

I will have this in the press across NA. The Rolex of smartphones with QA issues. Made in China!

Seems you suffer from a bit of drama queen-itis.

    Grow up.

    There was no 3GS fiasco.

There is no wide-spread issue with Wi-Fi affecting a majority of devices.

The vast majority of issues, and this is not specific to iPhones, are simply the result of the user being ignorant.

You've yet to state the problem you're having, although luckily you imply you tried a search.

No premium was paid for anything, you paid a similar price for an iPhone as for any smartphone of similar capabilities.

As for where the iPhone is manufactured, it has always been manufactured in China along with the vast majority of consumer electronics on the market, including many of it's competitors.

I have no idea how widespread this issue is, but it is absolutely real. I've read a lot of the other threads and I've tried about 10 different suggestions for how to 'fix' this, and none of them have worked.   To imply that this issue is a result "of the user being ignorant" is just a dumb thing to say.

But since diesel vdub seems to think he know how to solve this, I'll repeat here what I'm experiencing and if he has the answer, his next beer's on me.

I connect via WPA. When I first connect to a network, everything's fine. But after 5-10 minutes, while I'm still connected to the network, my ability to create outgoing connections terminates and something like safari just spins while attempting to connect to and load a page. If I turn wifi off in settings, then turn it back on and reconnect to the network, all is well again.

I've tried every suggestion I could find on these threads. Changed DNS, changed various other settings, cleared settings, restored the phone, blah blah blah. No change in this behavior.

If someone has the answer to this, I'd love to hear it.

Does the issue occur with every Wi-Fi connection that you connect to?  If it does, it's a device issue.

If it does not (and I strongly suspect it does not) then the issue is with the Wi-Fi hot spot.

Try turning off security on the Wi-Fi router, if you have access to do so.

I have tried it with the wifi network here at home, and ours at work. The same behavior happens in both places.

From the reading I've done, it seems to be a WPA issue. Those with this issue have no problem connecting to an unsecured network, but get varying issues similar or identical to mine connecting to secured ones.

Unsecuring either of our networks is not going to happen.  I have the access to do it, but it would be stupid of me to do that.

Most people with this issue seem to only be able to resolve it by taking their device to the Genius Bar and getting a new phone.  But if it were a device issue, then I'm struggling to understand the intermittency of the problem. Seems more like a firmware or software issue to me. If I couldn't connect EVER, then sure, I could easily see that being a device issue. But connecting then bailing? Doesn't seem like hardware to me, but that's probably the route I'll have to take to remedy this.

    1. Remove any case fromm the iphone and try it again. Two vendors have known issues.

    2. I am on my 4th iphone replacement. It works but only with certain cases. If I install the previous two cases they will inhibit reception. This is even after applying all iphone IOS updates.

It is what it is unfortunately.
