What is compromised in terms of security - is it my laptop or my phone. Or both? I'm laying here in bed at 2.23am having a total meltdown worrying about all the info that can be accessed on my phone.

Stop worrying and get some sleep.

Neither your laptop nor your phone is compromised.  Since you received a receipt, it does sound as if they got into your iTunes account. If your password had any connection to you, they may have been able to guess it, but more probably they just used a computer to try various combinations until they hit it. Or they may have tricked you into going to a fake site and entering it by sending you an e-mail saying something needed to be done on your account.  I get those all the time.  AppleID passwords are probably the biggest prize out there today.

Well, I've got as far as page 9 out of 122 pages of posts for this issue, starting in 2010. We are now in 2013 and I am totally shocked and appalled that Apple doesn't seem to care about this matter by keeping its customers abreast of the situation and attempting to fix it. Can we do something/protest collectively to get them to act. I truly am appalled.

njb72, Apple community Support Forums are not patrolled by Apple. Apple reps are not even allowed to post here in any official capacity. This is not tech support or a complaint desk. Apple doesn't provide any moderation of forum posts, necessarily. It is strictly a user to user forum. If you want Apple warranty or technical support, get an AppleCare protection plan for your stuff or make an appointment with the Genius Bar at your nearest Apple Store. You have a one year warranty on a new iPhone. There are all sorts of ways to get in touch with Apple. Stating that Apple doesn't care in a user to user forum, that is not monitored by Apple. Is just plain rude. There are though, plenty of good Apple product users here that do care and that is what this user to user forum is about.

From reading the posts I have read I don't think it's plain rude to say Apple don't care. I've read many, many posts saying the same thing! Go back and read from page 1 in 2010! I am saying as users can we not collectively do something about this. My post wasn't a personal attack on you ;) and I don't know why you took it as such.

njb72, try giving some help instead of expecting and taking? This is a user to user forum.

As individuals we can send Apple feedback @ http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html.

    I should have been clearer:-

    Wrt -with reference to

Use mothers maiden name as the question but something only you know for example something from your childhood that can't be guessed (e.g. First holiday, girlfriend BUT something you will never post or be able to see on the Internet).  Plus ave something different for each use of that kind of security question.

As others have said, there are ways to prove fraudulent transactions and security is a personal thing for passwords.

As has been said on the last few pages of this thread, contact Apple, bank, etc as if your card number as been changed then they probably will have YOUR card details - added to another hacked account.  Once bank contacted, those cards are blocked until you get a new card itch different details.

Let Apple/Bank departments deal with the fraudulent transactions and then you have no worries.

That should have read new card with different details.

You could change account number and/or bank if that settles any worries too.

Hi, thanks all for your responses.

I received the receipt of purchase today and I don't believe it was my card used. It looks like it was my iTunes account etc but someone else's card details.

My password was a very safe one with letters, numbers, caps etc which I have now changed.

I had 'in app purchases' disabled. However, a quick check after this happened and on my phone the settings had been changed to allow in app purchases and also all set to me being in the US when I'm in UK.

Someone clearly has access to my iTunes account to change my settings.

Is there a number to contact iTunes/apple fraud team? Sorry if its already been posted, I'm trawling through pages but not seen it yet.

It's very worrying and I know it looks like myself and njb72 are stressing ourselves out, but this is clearly new to us both and we are not that technical to know what damage it has caused to our apple id / iTunes account / bank account.

All your help is greatly appreciated :)

    Thanks again

No number. See what I  told njb72 just a few ago: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20988882#20988882

Same same blinkie. It looks like a card was used that does not belong to me but because I cannot remember which set of card details was there before (I did have one stored) I decided to cancel all my cards in any case just to be on the safe side. The hackers now have my email address, name, home address, telephone number and goodness knows what else?! I couldn't sleep as I am not a technical person either and cannot understand how they got into my account and whats to stop them from hacking into it every time now? When I was trawling through posts I see some people thought that one of our apps may have added some sort of security breach/spyware?

I thought it has to be my card used even though I can't immediately account for it because why would someone hack into my account only to use someone else's card fraudulently unless it's about traceability? It's all very strange!

I also noticed that a second device had been authorised on the account for downloads which was odd as I only have the one laptop. I unauthorised all devices and added my laptop again.

Could you tell me how to disable in app purchases please?

Thanks Mark. I understand what you are saying now about the security questions.  Many thanks for clarification. Nicci :)
