Hi all. I've got a problem with a delay with Airplay and streaming audio to my 3rd gen Apple TV.

I have the 2012 Airport Express and an Apple TV in my network. When streaming music to the Airport, it's perfectly in sync with my 2011 MBP (running Mountain Lion) speakers. When I add the Apple TV in the mix, there is a delay of about half a second - really annoying.

I checked the support pages to make sure I have all the settings right on my Airport. I don't have any other problems with the Apple TV otherwise - just this annoying audio delay. Even if I just stream from my MBP to Apple TV, and leave the Airport out, there is a delay - so it's also not the fact that I send music to 3 speakers.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Juergen

I forgot to mention: the Apple TV is hooked up to a Samsung TV via HDMI. The TV in turn is connected to a Samsung speaker system - also via HDMI. Not sure if that is where the delay comes from?

I've also tried to hook up the Apple TV directly to the speakers via Optical Cable. It seems to be slightly better, but there is still a delay.

I've noticed the same issue. Would love a solution.  I have the Apple TV connected to a Panasonic LCD in the sitting room.  The airport express is connected to stereo in the kitchen.  Apple TV has a slight delay. I've tried connecting it to another TV but same delay.

Hi... same problem... anyone found a solution?

I've got Mac and Airport Express station running in sync, but Apple TV (3) is out by half a second (Sony TV).

    Thanks.

It's not the Apple TV, it's your TV or theatre system that is connected to it.

Is this just an issue with select TV's?  I'm having the same issue (Samsung TV), and I'm not sure how to get around it without adding an Airport Express to the configuration and connecting the Airport Express directly to the sound system.

I had the issue with an old Panasonic TV and a samsung TV.   I recently got a Panasonic soundbar and now connect my ATV through that.  The delay has gone away.

Forgive me, I may be over-thinking this...  I think my audio & video are currently in sync, (and audio is only delayed when using Airplay).  Wouldn't your audio now be ahead when watching a movie on your Apple TV?  In other words, when streaming movies, is your sound bar getting the audio directly from the Apple TV or from the TV?

    Thanks for the help!

I my case the audio wasn't really in sync when watching videos on the apple tv.  It was out a little bit.  It wasn't too noticeable.  I noticed it more when streaming music to my ATV in the sitting room and AE in the kitchen.  They weren't in sync and it was annoying.   The difference was small but enough to know that the sound was from two different sources.

Same problem here. I just purchased an Apple TV 3 and was happy to have a single device to stream photos, music and videos to my TV. But there are two major flaws with using Apple TV for audio playback in your home:

    - If you play music from your main computer with iTunes, you get the delay on the speakers connected to the Apple TV or the TV set (as described in germanintheburgh's post).

    - if you use Apple TV to play your music, you can't have it play on your computer and the speakers attached to it.

I just called tech support, I told them that my old (2005) Airport Express worked flawlessly and they confirmed that Apple TV is not designed to play music in sync with a computer (even an Apple one!).

So for me, since I rarely watch iTunes videos, Apple TV is just a €200 screen-saver!

I'm thinking of selling it... Any buyers?

Well here it is again. This has been a problem since gen 1. There are people here that will make you think it is you and not apple. If your music from ATV to your tv is out of sync you are out of luck. Some have said with samsung you can play with the timing of the sound but good luck with that. You can try to use the optical out but good luck with that because people say somtimes the sound for movies are out too. Best thing I did was buy an Apexpress and if you have a hard wire make a new network so you can have better wifi by your tv to airplay games to your tv. If not join  your network and have a $100 music box! Then you can be the cool guy and also airplay to the atv but mute it just to have the cool cover flow of what is playing.

Not a hatter just a long time lover that just feel lied to!

    hi,

in my house i use 2x airplay express, 1x sony ns510, 1x onkyo abx n300 and 1x Apple TV (2012).

my router is an airport extreme...

i use the whaale multiroom player app to stream music directly from ipad to the devices and it works excellent. all devices are in sync and play the same sound at the same time: http://www.whaale.com
