At the risk of repeating myself....

You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:

    • Ctrl-B to turn on the menu bar.
    • Ctrl-S to turn on the sidebar.
    • Ctrl-/ to turn on the status bar.
    • Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the previous search behaviour.

To roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and supporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.

    RestorePrevious.png

See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.

To protect against the unexpected in future backup your iTunes library (and other personal data).

CNTL-B, CNTL-S, and CNTL-/ doesn't do it.  It doesn't do it at all.

I'm now left with a big blob of file names when I want to look at album names.  Navigation is near hopeless.

Here's a question:  how can I roll back to the previous version without having iTunes force me to upgrade itself the next time I start it?

    They need to fix this.

    Hi cargaut,

I know there is a lot of problems with the new iTunes 11. You could contact Apple and maybe they could help you downgrade back to iTunes 10. Now, Apple doesn't support this, but it is do-able. You can Google "iTunes 10 download" and install it that way.

I am not a big fan of the new iTunes, but I am willing to keep it until they come up with something better.

    Thank you,

iTunes doesn't show filenames or paths. If you want a plethora of details use the Songs view and turn on the columns of interest. I miss the old Album List view which did the same but also showed artwork. That said I don't really have any trouble moving around my media library in this new version, thought I grant it is different. I prefer the new Album view for playback but can switch easily into songs or playlists when I'm performing some organizational task.

Roll back to iTunes 10.7 as given above. Run Apple Software Update, cancel as it searches for updates, use Edit > Preferences to change the schedule to Never. If iTunes prompts you that there is a new version there is a button that reads along the lines of "Don't remind me again".

Its the string of little things that get me .Its obvious that nobody cared about consistency. every view has everything different, its like a different team designed each piece.

For example. When in basic music view, the "randomize" icon turns blue when it is active. When you are in a playlist the randomize button on the playlist title of the playlist doesn't.

When you are in the basic all music view. The display options (songs, albums, artists, genres) are at the top center of the browser...when you are in a playlist, the display options are not there, instead they are hidden in a tiny icon on the right side of the screen.

The library shows how many movies I have next to the word "Movies" but the Music line doesn't show the number of songs. I have to open the song list and check the status bar.

    Just bizarre design choices.

I'd agree there is room for more consistency, but that's not a new problem for iTunes.

As to the numbers alongside Movies, TV Shows, iTunes U & Podcasts, these relate to unplayed/unwatched items. Apps gets a count of available updates. Music doesn't have an unplayed count. No change from previous builds.

Start off by saying I cant find a number of things in the new itunes.  And I noticed most of my videos to include movies arent showing but thats something that I'm not as worried about and is a whole another topic.  I'm just mentioning it in part because I have to include that i have many many many valid points among others.

This CTRL B, CTRL S, etc. does not work for me.
Perhaps because i'm on a Mac??

I realize I somehow ended up on a Windows forum....maybe because my posts kept getting deleted everytime Isaid I didnt like the new iTunes over there in Macland.
Which by the way, only succeeded in FURTHER disillusioning me from Apple.

Because now where I am is here:

I cant do anything with my library:  cant use my years & years of music, videos, etc.
    Am totally disillusioned
    let down
    ticked off

    And now?
I'm feeling censored....feeling like they're  just trying to shut me up if I dont have anything 100% glowing to say and I have a problem with that because then we get stuff thats just crud LIKE THIS NEW ITUNES.
And then it doesnt go away.
OK and here's my question so they cant say I had no value to my post.  how do I find my artwork, my lists, my songs by artist, the dates that I added things, the way that I had everything grouped, how do I find...sigh anything??

And right now, the most insulting thing I think anyone could possibly do or say, aside from deleting my post, would be to say that the only reason I dont like the new thing is because its "different".  Nope.  Thats not it at all.

On a Mac it should be CMD-B, CMD-S and CMD-/

Roll back is, as far as I know, pretty much the same process as I have described for Windows.

I cannot begin to describe the issues and grief this update has caused. Not only does it look bad, IMHO of course, the taking away of the "coverflow" - one of my favourite features - is a major bugbear visually. Why sell album art with every purchase and then effectively make it invisible in iTunes?

Technically though, I'm not sure what's going on half of the time. We all know the "last played" and "play count" features are stuffed, rendering smart playlists and all sorts of other things useless, but the playcounts for songs keep reducing to zero as well. You can look at a playlist and all songs have been played numerous times, come back from a weekend away and it says some of them have never been played. I will NOT disable cross fade, as it's a feature I love. Like smart playlists, you created it, you offered it to me, now give it back in full working order!! It still shows when they were actually last played however.

I've had artwork for over 150 albums mysteriously disappear, not from every song on the album, but some. How the songs are saved seems to have changed, and sometimes where you've altered the of either the song title, the genre or the album title it's reverted back to what it (probably) was originally. Click on the song and these things change again before your very eyes. And "duplicate songs" has gone...........

This version seems to be all about the store, never mind the library. We're also definitely being punished for anything that wasn't purchased from the iTunes store too it seems (even if it was from pre iTunes store days), very funny things have been happening with many of those items.

I've been so busy trying to fix things that have gone AWOL, I haven't had time to purchase any new music in weeks. I'm sure that wasn't the plan with this ummmmmm, upgrade?

Can't seem to get used to it. Had to help my farther in law set up his ipod touch and it took me hours. It feels like to control is not intuitive any more, had to go back to drop down menus over and over again. Such a waste of time.

HATE IT! HATE IT! HATE IT! Why does Apple regularly take what ain't broke and break it? Major reason I hate Apple and will never buy another of their products. Just wish I had thought of the now obvious strategy of downloading the new version separately to see how badly they had screwed it up! I've never posted here before but this so absolutely ***** that I just had to vent! It's not as if Apple will give a **** though. They've never shown much concern for what their customers think.
