I had the same issue today after trying to set restrictions to keep my son from deleting apps.  After two restores I figured out that I had to go back to a restore point prior to me setting the password.  I went back to the date I got my phone.  All restrictions were disabled at that point.  I enabled them again with a password I'll remember (I hope) and just restored to today's backup point.  Think it worked but we'll see.

In order to change the passcode for the restrictions, you must add the string

    <key>SBParentalControlsPIN</key>

              <string>1234</string>

to the text. It will change the PIN to 1234. Then if you remove that string after syncing your backup and making your edits, it will set the passcode back to what it was before you added the <key>. It is a thousand times easier to make this edit in X-Code's Plist viewer, but it can be done in TextEdit or any other code editor by entering the string. There is alot of syncing to be done here, however it is the only way to edit the PIN without knowing it or Jailbreaking.

I am definitely missing something here...tried the exact steps and triple checked the edited file, all looks fine. when i do a restore, i get the "restore in progress" on my iphone and then i get a dialog box on the ibackupbot application and the error message it "errror occured, error code-1". i have iphone4 with ios 6.0.1. appreciate any help.

I am having the same problem as bvvasu  - edited the files, double checked everything - tried restoring from both ITunes and from iBackbot (on separate occasions)... I also get the "restore in progress" on the ipod and then i get a dialog box on the ibackupbot application and the error message it "errror occured, error code-1".  We have 2 ipod 4th generations using 6.0.1 and an older Mac running OS 10.5.8. I thought I knew the restrictions passcode but after 13 attempts on each ipod and numberous restorations from backups am afraid I may end up restoring but the kids will loose all their info, right? - wipes the slate completely clean and it's like a new ipod? no apps, no history etc? any help appreciated...

I'm trying to figure this all out and I get as far as restoring from the new backup and my ipod says error 36 and then just reboots.  I'm not sure how to fix this. Any help??

Try to delete stuff off the iOS device. I had the same issue. I deleted off some media and gave the restore process more space. And voila it worked.

    Hi Drifting trumphet

In my com.apple.springboard.plist file there was no entry called SBParentalControlPIN. So I added the same. But even after restoring the backup the problem didn't resolve. I don't remember setting any password itself for the parental restrictions. I have IOS6 installed on my IPad2. Does this method apply to IOS6 also?

  • DriftingTrumpet Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

i believe ios6 may or may not be different, perhaps ask others because i did mines on ios5.1.1
