This is called a support community for something. No one from Apple read these forums. All that you can expect from here is people that complains and people that knows how it works and suggests you alternatives and possible solutions. This is exactly what I did. You can either use iMessage or get unlimited texting. Oh, you might also be able to get an alternative app for texting like Skype which can send SMS to mobile phones.

There is nothing else than this forum can do for you. We give you as much as we can with the technical details we know. So like I said, SMS are not magic. If you think that getting splitted SMS is annoying, try to live in a country where they use an extended alphabet and every text you send are limited to 70 characters. You can barely fit a whole sentence in one message.

I don't think this bug is Apple's fault. I think this is caused by your network carrier. There is tons of complains about all kinds of phone getting their SMS splitted on the Sprint carrier. You should do some research too and provide a constructive argument instead of just blasting people that tries to provide actual solutions.

What is it that you don't understand about the fact that those of us sending the messages DO have unlimited text messages but that NOT EVERYONE WE SEND TEXTS TO DOES?  It really makes absolutely NO difference to me whether it sends a 10 word text in one message or 2 or 10, but it DOES matter to the person I send the message to that doesn't have an iPhone and has to receive it in pieces!  Are you really suggesting that, just because Apple and Sprint cannot get their "stuff" together and fix this, everyone I need to send texts to should pay for unlimited texting on THEIR phone plan to accommodate this nonsense?!?  Maybe everyone in the country should just get an IPhone and solve the problem that way.

Yes, I know that Apple employees do not read these forums.  I was making a point about the great lengths that you were going to in order to try to convince people who are plagued by this that there really is no problem... that it is just the way things work (or, now, that i should just be grateful that i dont live somewhere else because then I would have OTHER texting problems!) when clearly there IS an issue. You did not offer a solution for me to,blast.  You offered bogus explanations for why it wasn't a problem to begin with.  And I HAVE done additional research, and talked to Apple and logged a problem report, etc. etc. etc.

The fault is -- at the very LEAST -- partially Apple's because this was not a problem on ANY carrier before the latest iOS upgrade.

I think they both are at fault.

I had a 4 on the at&t network with the latest OS then I switched to Sprint and was forced to get a 4S because they didn't have a 16g 4 only 4S then I started having this texting issue.

Given that I had the same OS, but I have a different phone on a different network, I think the problem is how SPRINT is handling messaging. The question for me, is did the OS break Sprints messaging protocol (Apple's fault) or is there something wrong in Sprints messaging system (sprint's fault)

EITHER way, the problem is big enough and affecting enough users that the two of them need to get together and figure this mess out. I agree, it is a issue for people without unlimited text messages on the receiving end. I don't know enough about other carriers to determine if someone gets charged for both incoming and outgoing messages.

(For a really fun Apple issue, wait to you upgrade the OS and then all of the sudden you need a password even when you've never needed one before AND it picks some random password you used once 5 years ago...)

For anyone who was experiencing this problem, it was INDEED an Apple issue because if you upgrade to iOS6, the problem has been fixed!  I upgraded yesterday and have sent long messages to almost everyone who was previously getting my messages in pieces and they have ALL received them in a single message.

    So... UPGRADE.

I have the iPhone 4 with the iOS6 and Verizon and have the same problem with the text messages.

    Hi everyone,

Has anyone figured out what is causing this annoying problem? Cause I can't. I've had the same problem with my iPhone 4S (with AT&T) since I got it about a year ago, and have done every upgrade available. I recently went to the Apple store to find out about the problem and they said it's an AT&T problem. Somehow, I knew that would be the answer. It doesn't matter if I send a 20 word text, it still breaks up, sometimes into 3 or more incomplete pieces. And to top it off, I get charged for each piece (I don't have unlimited texting). I've had to stop texting non-iPhone users.

    Thanks.

I had this issue, but I have the Sprint 4S and it was solved within a few updates. What I found worked as a makeshift solution while I still had the problem was to add three spaces at the end of my text, and it didn't split up. I hope this works for you!

Thanks for the quick reply. I will give it a try, but does this mean the person replying to my text has to do the same space thing at the end? Having to do this is kind of ridiculous.

From my experience the person on the receiving end didn't have to do anything differently, nor did they receive anything differently. It is tedious having to add the spaces, but at least I was still able to text without the breaks. Hopefully you will be able to do the same.

I am not sure why it does this ... All I know is that I turned on character count and as long as I can keep my lecture to my son under 160 characters long, he will get my whole message without it being truncated :).  I'm on verizon.  My husband has an android and when their text messages reach 160, it automatically changes the text message into an MMS. I wish apple would do this as well because it's not a matter of truncation being an issue... It's sending the truncated message out of order that is super annoying to the person recieving the message.  For example... My 19 year old who will text back saying MOM! You are jumping all over the place!  :). Wish this could be fixed!!!
