On desktop you can hide posts when on Facebook. Is there any way to do that on the iPad?

this is FB related, not apple related.. try their support, however i believe you can't do that on mobile version of FB. if you swipe left ro right on any newsfeed little X shoud appear for deletion. I am not FB person so try FB support site

Using mobile Safari, try tapping on the post which will activate the links and you can try to hide it from there....however it's been my experience that sponsored posts are all but impossible to hide and block. (in fact, I've found it all but impossible to even block the company that the ads come from)  Those posts are there cause companies paid for them to be there thus allowing them to be easily blocked would be counter intuitive.

Your best option to see if you can avoid them is to look into third party facebook apps.

The inability to hide newsfeed posts using iPad Safari has been a major gripe of mine for some time.  Today I accidentally came across the solution and it's really simple.

Tap once on their name at the top left of the post. This will bring up the down arrow that is normally brought up by hovering the mouse over that spot with a desktop browser. Tap the down arrow. Tap 'Hide'. Post hidden.

Oh yeah, tapping their name a second time—not a double tap, that just zooms the display—will take you to their timeline.
